New MacBook Pro to have a fingerprint scanner in its power button

08 August, 2016
Apple's MacBook Pro line is due for a redesign this year, according to countless rumors that have spread so far. We've previously heard the new design will be thinner and lighter, and will house an OLED touch panel replacing the row of function keys above the keyboard.

      1. you talked a lot about how bad windows is, in fact it isn't, there isn't much ads and I trust microsoft with my data more than i do facebook, google and apple combined
      2. you can't blame distro backdoors or such on the whole linux image, you want linux your way go build it with arch. linux is much more safe to use than any other OS if you know what you are doing that is.
3.there are many freeBSD OSes and linux options that totally eliminate any need for macOS. apple products are targetted at hippies and people with no knowledge of the system. KISS (keep it simple stupid)

and guess what? they are made by other companies because at the core, mac machines are the same as others. the only difference is the logo and the OS

MacOS is a great OS. The Macbook Pro's hardware is perfect. Just a beautiful machine! But I am working as an consultant. That means MS Office applications like Excel. And MS Office for Mac is really bad. It is like a time machine back to 2003. No Visio available. So I went for lenovo X230 and I will upgrade for X250.
IMHO - If you need to work with office you really should go with a windows machine or at least paralles and a windows for your office work.

Peyman, 09 Aug 2016I read all that comments and unfortunately most of them are... moreTypical sheepie comment.
Not every Windows laptop have poor quality either you have not buy a premium Windows laptop or you are just trolling
            I also have macbook pro 13 (retina)and Alienware 15
I agreed that macbooks are solid and ios is stable also have a good app store but mac is not for gamers and not for heavy graphic work because of less powerful gpu and yes macs are difficult to upgrade.
On otherside my Alienware is very much powerful and with windows os it is versatile and productive, mac is also versatile especially a newer one ( elcapition)but Windows 10 is more versatile and also have some good features as compared to mac

I read all that comments and unfortunately most of them are not true. I am using a mac but I was a windows user also. I am using linux on another machine also. I am a developer of several languages also. When I shifted from linux to mac, I still found myself at home. I chose macbook because in my idea macbooks are real laptop. Most windows-base laptops have poor quality, although they have high spec. Macbooks have great batteries. And I found macOs more intelligent in giving best user experience.

divis200, 08 Aug 2016Tell me, what are the upsides of having mac os?There are plenty of upsides of using a Mac like:

You get to play the oldest games; since new titles aren't supported until 2 years crawl by.

You are unable to upgrade any aspect of your device since everything is welded on.

You realise that you need Windows installed to do anything even remotely useful on your machine, and vow to never buy a Mac again!

AnonD-456472, 08 Aug 2016CE bachelor here typing this from a linux machine there is... moreAdvantages to OS X: It's basically a BSD userland with commercial software support. The firewall is pf and it uses LibreSSL. The only place you can write iOS apps. The hardware is top-notch (I agree with OP; I got burned by the new Thinkpad P50 and its crap display). Downsides: Archaic file system, GNU toolchain is pretty old.

Advantages to Windows: DEP, W^X protection, probably the most secure operating system by default not named OpenBSD; great commercial software support, works on everything. Downsides: No compiler by default, ads all over the place, no built-in encryption for home editions, spies on you, targeted by everybody.

Advantages to Linux: Make it work like you want, lots of interface customization, lots of software, up to date toolchain (using Arch or Fedora), rapid pace of development, most privacy for end-user. Downsides: The user-friendly distros are not very secure, no thorough code audits, hints of NSA backdoors (just hit backspace exactly 28 times at a grub2 password prompt, and you just bypassed full disk encryption on a system with SecureBoot), very poorly documented compared to BSD or even Windows.

Touch F keys? Good luck with that, have fun. No thanks.
Frankly adding the fingerprint scanner to the power button seems a good idea, just don't make that power button a touch key as well.
One thing that was annoying on my HP DV 6000 series laptop was turning it on by accident when you touched the Quick Play capacitive key at the top.

there is no advantage for using apple machines unless you want to pay a lot of money to be able to develope IOS apps. other than that if you need freedom around your computer OS you go linux, if you want compatibility and game dev/ or any other development (you can develope on linux too, like android development) you go windows.
there is absolutely no advantage with a mac machine except if you want to try and fix your broken self-esteem. macs are not good for gaming and they are mediocre for development (yeah i just said that) and btw fingerprint on laptops has been on devices since the middleages specially lenovo thinkpads ideapads etc, once again apple users get to experience our old technologies for the first time. it's good to see a baby have his first icecream

This will be hilarious to watch. Grab the popcorn; I'm ready to see 250+ comments of technical illiterates trying to explain in broken English why the product they waste money on is better than everything else. That goes for Apple and Windows users alike.

Yes, there are technical advantages to working within the macOS environment. No, I doubt that anybody with less than a Master's Degree in CS from a regionally-accredited institution will be able to explain them. And yes, Windows 10 is more secure by default than either macOS or Linux.

As a non-Apple user, a fingerprint scanner built into the power button is a very good idea, by the way; expect to see it on trash Thinkpads and the like within the next couple of years.
