16 August, 2016
Remember the Allo and Duo apps that Google unveiled at its I/O conference this year? Well, Duo - the one-to-one video calling app - has now started rolling out. This was announced by the Mountain View, California-based company in a blog post.

Anonymous, 17 Aug 2016.... can someone tell me what this pissed off android user ... moreNope. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you just proved that guy right. What he said was something like, apple imprint on their users mind, that they are at the cutting, when they are not. You just stated your belief, obviously from your understanding of or, via facetime (ie apple.) facetime ( but you'll have to get past that apple label to understand.), which is really simply video calling, was relatively new to phones, but truly whether we like it or not, video calling was available to anyoneback in the year 2003 as stated, for one the Motorolla A1000 phone did it back then, with lots to follow. I don't have all the details but, apple were around the back of the que to use it, and then, I think people could only use it on wi fi, and another restriction was that you could only call, geuss what, some one on another iphone. As for the simplicity in 2003, it was two taps ( it was touch sreen back then.) the contact, then press video icon. Hope this helps, its being said in whatever way they put it, that apple closes in peoples minds so they believe they have something they have not, all it takes is a catchy name.I'm not saying your a mug, but what the poster more than hinted at, has much in the way of foundational truth, consider it, chew it over, move on. I suppose if apple had have called it, video calling on apple, it would have been more honest, because that's all it is, nothing morenothing less, just a very late to the party, video calling slot.

faceingthewrongway, 17 Aug 2016farcetime is a companies way of avoiding admitting, that th... more.... can someone tell me what this pissed off android user is talking about? I don't think apple ever claimed they invented video calling either. facetime was something that was relatively new to phones when it 1st came out, sure there is skype, but facetime is so easy to use its just dialing a number on facetime.

lol silly android users. they are mad at everything.

If It can only work while linked to my phone number, will it also work on my tablet and PC?

AnonD-405901, 16 Aug 2016Well let's hope that it matches Facetime, cause Facetime is... morefarcetime is a companies way of avoiding admitting, that their poor ignorant customers have had withheld from them, something that everyone else's customers have been freely enjoying, since @ 2003, its called VIDEO calling its not patented, branded, its not restricted, locked down to a phone operating system, and farcetime farceically lies the opposite. So let me get this right apple users are thrilled , that apple made them wait 10 or 15 years to use something, renamed it, branded it, and made people believe they introduced it, whilst every one else has been using it....and they are,..... singing apples praises here..uh...wow, its a crime to take the money.

What is that funny little white phone, with the small screen and massive bezells, with the odd unbalanced small inadaquate array of sensors, is Chinese Oppo like or something, I hope its not dear to buy, its very unflattering.

Imho, the big problem with this is that it's a phone-only service. If you have to use a desktop/laptop/tablet for your calls (which a lot of people do), you need to look elsewhere.
As much as people love to hate Skype, it's the only service that consistently works everywhere.

Another problem with Duo is that it doesn't do anything that WhatsApp or Viber don't already do.
