Anonymous, 17 Aug 2016Dumb, look at the review on notebookcheck, for example on 1... moreNvidia have mastered not optimising specific drivers somthey can reveal really nice statistics.
Even have the consumers caught up in the whole mess with gameworx (allowing controlled crippling of competitors products even if it harms their own users)..
They know users look at 'benchmarks'.
I bet the desktop cards, when the time is right, get a decent fps bump from a driver upgrade (that the laptop chips won't get), if your premise is true and thenhardware is 30% slower.
My belief is the laptops wouldn't get the same 'boost' frequencies (or any), and generally wouldn't deliver this speed from the battery... (being intentionally crippled, likley to treat the battery cells with some respect).
To be fair pascal seems pretty 'power light' and sipping the power is good for 'not generating heat' and running quite well...
Suppose a 'wait and see'/ wider range of benchmarks at a range of resolutions etc...

I've seen the review of the Liquid-cooled laptop by ASUS and i've got to say i'm impressed by Nvidia. (i'm an AMD user)
Love it how so much muscle can be packed in such small laptops.
now, i just need to wait more for the technology to mature further so the costs go down.
Most Gaming Laptops have 1000$ desktop hardware and cost 3000$ it's just ridiculous.
Not exactly my thing but it sure is easy as hell to take around a laptop rather than your whole gaming pc.

q8peace, 16 Aug 2016what is the point of gaming laptop you guys enjoy playing g... moreNot getting a lot of 'love',with that comment!
The only weaknesses with gaming laptops is that 'on battery' they usually yield much less performance, that is 'capped'/unopenable.
Whilst these desktop chips sip power and run relatively cool, I still doubt that when 'not on wall power' these will run at their full grunt..
All the same, as a portable pc that fold up nicely,.. brilliant.
And monitors and TVs are everywhere, and since the advent of HDMI, easy to hook up picture and sound,.. VR headsets travel pretty well; but I guess their screens are a lot smaller than 15" (or 17-18" that the higher end chips are usually paired up with for chassis' big enough to 'vent')... ;-)

q8peace, 16 Aug 2016what is the point of gaming laptop you guys enjoy playing g... moreYou enjoy higher quality graphics with better framerates together, even at lower resolution.
Plus, you are prepared for future's games. You ain't gonna dump a $2000 laptop in 2 years itself, right?
Plus, you can connect to big screens, like those 4K or 8K ones.
Plus, when not under pressure, the laptop remains cooler with powerful GPUs, (although this is just a general statement and not applicable to every situation)
I think these are enough reasons for more power.

Only 10% less performance? While gaming laptops aren't cheap, I think it's great that the difference is so small. Before gaming laptops had much worse performance compared to desktop PCs, but their price was huge despite that. Prior gen 980m is equal to pascal 1060m.
