18 June, 2006
A lot has been going around the Taiwanese manufacturer of Windows Mobile devices HTC this month. It seems that it's going to abandon it highly popular European brand name Qtek...

my Sp3i served me well. Solid build, dropped and kicked many time, no squeaky parts. Only a problem with one key which was fixed by imate warranty. Had a C500 too, no hardware problems at all, Orange will cover anything too. Using O2's wizard, the sliding keyboard sure has loosen up after 6mnth. But it still feels fine and I don't suppose it will break soon. Only real problem is borken stylus lock which is well documented. That is only real design flaw I found with 3 HTC products. No problem to recommend, except to those stubon 'anything but nokia is bad interface' people.

You obviously don't know what you're saying F173, did you know that HTC is the OEM of HP, Dell (and probably the new generation TREO) for their PPC?
      Quoting F173:
"Their screens are spongy when using the stylus, unlike an HP device or other PDA."

Excellent Outlook connectivity, great interfaces but the hardware is extremely poor, virtually breaking in your hand while you use it. Ive had Qtek, Sp3 and Sp3i. Overall each handset only lasted 1-6 months before something important broke. Great idea-very poorly executed. Very bad cost of ownership as a result

HTC makes good smartphones that run junk firmware and junk a Microsoft OS software. Too bad. Try to get your phone serviced. That's a joke. Now they're getting rid of Qtek out of embarrassment, if anything. They have a long, long way to go. Their only HTC brand that doesn't suck too much is iMate, which seems to help more than other HTC knockoffs. Also, their sound quality sucks when you compare them to a Sony Ericsson or Nokia during a call. Don't drop an HTC phone. You'll have at least 2-3 pieces rattling around inside the phone, which drives you nuts. Their screens are spongy when using the stylus, unlike an HP device or other PDA. No customer service. Just bad stuff, an HTC device.

Every feature sounds promising EXCEPT for the MicroSD slot. They should have just stuck with the MiniSD standard like the predecessor the HTC Wizard.

I think the need to put the TyTN on diet. It has put on another 20 grams for the original spec for the already hefty Qtek 9600. Brrrr
