READ THIS before saying it's just chinnese phone with a Nokia name...

TL dr - It is a very very smart strategy if they can execute it well.. this is PURE Nokia coming back .. Instead of 1 company having 3 departments.. it's just indirectly divided into 3 different companies

There are 3 components to this strategy...

                    1) Nokia Technologies - The main Nokia will DESIGN phones and use it's R&D and set PERFORMANCE standards and STRICT Quality Control that will bring back that NOKIA feel and uniqueness...so Expect Pureview / Ozo like camera tech and other innovations in Nokia phones... They also have the right to reject phones of sub par quality ...

                    2) Foxconn

Their only job is to manufacture phones and produce them as designed by NOKIA themselves .. they will not use their own designs etc... This is similar how apple design iphone and foxconn manufactures it...

                    3) HMD

This is a Finnish company run by """Ex-Nokia"" Employees... The job of this company is to maintain Sales, Marketing and After Sales services .... The Good news is that they will not be restarting from scratch like any other new company... They will use their old NOKIA SALES Channels and Partnerships .. So Expect Similar AFTER SALES SERVICES that they used to have ... Why ?

Microsoft has sold the NOKIA Sales Channels and After sales support to Foxconn .. and HMD have """EXCLUSIVE""" Right to use these old channels from Foxconn...

so simple - 1) Nokia design phone and license its name , design and technologies used to HMD ... Then HMD gives manufacturing order to Foxconn based on phones designed and specs set by nokia.. then Hmd handles all the sales , marketing and After sales services of all nokia products from feature phones to smartphones to tablets..

This is an excellent strategy without taking too much risk..

Alien , 18 Aug 2016First they went with that bs os called windows mobile. All ... moreDear, Alien,

So many things you failed to understand and don't know what happened with Nokia while you were visiting your home planet. Nokia's units control were given (sold) to Microsoft by a Trojan horse virus, Stephen Elop AKA former CEO of Nokia and former VP of Microsoft, while the virus was deployed by MS to sabotage Nokia. Once Nokia fell from the top, their stock value (shares) fell to the rock bottom. The virus convinced the board members to sell the Nokia factories to Microsoft, for which the virus received a kickback close to 100M $. And also an agreement to keep Nokia away from mobile phone business till 2015. Microsoft planned and executed it very well. When the business is good, nobody would sell it. MS knew this.

The one who let you down was not Nokia. It was Microsoft in Nokia's Skin. Microsoft manufactured those plasticky phones. "Original" Nokia is coming back after a long time, first time after the incident. This is not Chinese. Same Finland, same old Foxconn. I really miss Symbian which I am still in love with. The Symbian support was outsourced to Accenture. Now it's Android powered. If you're a real loyal or a fan of Nokia, you would have known these facts. Your loyalty is so immature for accusing and denying your support to Nokia at times like this.

Nokia had always customers satisfaction with their robust mobile. I still use the N series. Made a few mistakes - then I hope they learned their lessons.
