Apple Music and Spotify tense up over music label agreements

19 August, 2016
This is not the first or last time Spotify and Apple Music will clash. Not so recently, Spotify called out Apple’s App Store revenue rules, calling the company “anti-competitive” when it came to Apple favoring its own streaming services and putting third party services down, so to speak. In response, Apple accused Spotify of asking for special treatment from other apps.

Never used Apple music but for me Spotify is more than enough for me. I got all the songs I need and even the most obscure ones are there and the service reliable and really good

Pirating that's why going to always be lot bigger with android.

Spotify rocks. I use it for my Android Windows and BlackBerry devices. Family plan is cool. On my iPhone I buy the music...... so I just load it. Strange as it sounds my iPhone is my business phone. Movies and episodes oh yeah I use iOS.

It was around 1.1-1.2x more pirates. And that can be accounted for by ease of pirating.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2016That maybe just proved how much you know. 99% android users... morelol it's funny the numbers game isn't it?? where do u get 99%?? and saying iphone is the other way around makes 1% of iphone users don't pay for the apps?
even though the idea might be in the right way but wrong focused, i can say it might be true than more than 50% of either android or iphone user don't pay for some apps (notice the "some") i would say that it depends on the countries and even so the apps are not really expensive so every person has the means to pay at least 1 or 2 apps in any Store...
now about spotify, i'd like to see more support for the app since it's grown popularity and the fight with apple is really hard to fight (underdog-wise)

AnonD-442781, 24 Aug 2016No. They don't. Anti-competetive practices are against the law. If a guy came to your house and told your guests(potential business clientèle) that you are serving poison won't you throw him out? Nothing anti-competitive against pure indecent behavior.

Duel, 24 Aug 2016"Better to just leave and focus on the 85% of world that us... moreProbably true back in 2012 that IOS users would be "richer" and willing to pay more. Here in 2016 I doubt that, and where I live (Denmark) there is probably zero difference in income and willingness to spend between owners of IOS devices and Android. In fact a lot of IOS users have really low income but seems to believe owning an IPhone makes them look richer which is really sad.

Anyway if Spotify has to pay 30% to Apple and 55% to the labels there is little business left and no possibility to compete with Apple. Would be fun if somebody had the balls to just leave...

Spotify losing money because of the reason stated in the article and also because it isn't available in other countries as much as Apple Music ( for example, Romania ). And also think about how many people use iPhones and with the Apple Music coming "preinstalled", the user base can grow rapidly. I wanted to use Spotify, as I heard that is a great music service, but because of the unavailability I had to use Apple Music, or Google Play Music.

And lose most of their paid users? sure.. :) Im sure spotify want to users who make premium subscribe, we already know that android users don't want to pay for stuff, and maybe they don't have money to do that, iOS users use lot more money for services, so removing iOS app would hurt spotify very very badly.
