NVIDIA announces GTX 1060 3GB edition

20 August, 2016
NVIDIA has announced yet another graphics card, the GTX 1060 3GB edition. But while it might just sound like a GTX 1060 with half the RAM, there is a bit to it than that.

Guess they felt the squeeze from the 480 pretty hard. 480 will have better longevity than the 1060 though, and I say that as a 980 Ti owner. I'd get the 480.

Heck, even the proprietary ones are a little too far apart from the Windows performance (Nvidia as still better performance on Linux, AMD is winning in openness).

Another scam from NVidia. After 970 "trick" the company cannot be trusted. I'm staying with my R9 390X with 8GB VRAM and 512-bit bus.

This card is about as fast as a GTX 780 Ti... which also has 3GB. I highly doubt that older card would run into VRAM troubles @ 1080p in modern games that often. At $200 that's going to be the target market.

I woudn't recommend anyone to buy a 3GB GFX card in 2016. Simply because most PC ports are trash and need to be brute-forced to run at a decent framerate.

Even decent ones these days require atleast 3GB VRAM for them to load textures or else there is massive stuttering...

The RX line has the best Graphics drivers available in Linux currently and Vulkan has native LInux support. If you want a future of Linux gaming AMD is the company that's actually going to give it to you.

Seriously look up recent AMD Linux drivers you'll be shocked how much better they've gotten. Also with Vulkan Linux gaming has a real chance. Give AMD RX line and most recent drivers for them another look. You'll be glad you did!

most linux users (i'm one of them since 2004) know that amd is terrible.

But seriously after my harsh experience with R7 250x and linux I'm going for Nvidia this time no matter what.

Otherwise I don't see why anyone should buy this instead of r7 470-480 . Maybe if the Want the streaming features!

According to anand 1060 about 10% higher than 980. So this card has on par perf with 980

then call it the GTX 1050 ffs dumb ass companies
