Anonymous, 24 Aug 2016Why so angry?Because I owned a G2 and badly wanted to upgrade, but LG kept churning out shi*ty large phones with huge bezels, small batteries and curves that no one wanted.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2016Who cares about DAC? All phones already have perfect sound ... morecool arguments (specially the heat pipes resembling samsung)
what i must contradict you is the battery issue, of course u find it way better to have removable battery (maybe zerolemon comes first to mind for the change) but that's like saying "release it with 500Mah battery either way it's getting replaced" so all the effort in ram managment or whatever things to improve battery they might have goes to drain, i think that's why some brands are keeping the non-removable battery and even not upgrading a lot (staying around the 4000MAh) it just completes the package to sell it since no item should be meant to be replaced as soon as it's bought
i hope i explained myself since i'm kinda bad writter for this stuff ;)

Who cares about DAC? All phones already have perfect sound quality through the 3.5mm jack (so I'm not talking about the speakers).
There are much more important things about a smartphone to improve. For example
- LG should implement some kind of cooling system for the CPU and GPU (like heat pipes in Galaxy S7 or Xperia Z5);
- LG should add options for the user to reduce screen reslution / framerate for power saving and gaming performance boost purposes (like the Galaxy S7 has);
- LG should use a good single camera (f/1.7 aperture, larger pixel size, like the Galaxy S7 has) instead of two average cameras;
- LG should use a removable back, so 3rd party manufacturers can make extended battery for the phone (because extended battery means replacing the phone's stock battery to a bigger one, which requires removable back).
These are the things that LG should do.

AnonD-262981, 24 Aug 2016I wouldn't dismiss Realtek so easily. Their DAC have THD of... morethen again, look at my comparison:
the said DAC that can do 84 db dynamic range with said THD, at 192 kHz sample rates, takes a beating, a one sided one, to a ~10 years old sound card. My Audigy SE, which isn't any super high end gear, does 100 db dynamic range but can't reach 192 kHz sample rates, it's capped at 96.
My point here is that this number crunching of specs is more PR talk than anything else, they just show the numbers that look amazingly high, without any significance even on physics, but hide the truth on the rest. What would matter the most is the headphone amp quality, and the rest of the DAC's qualities/specs.
It's going into 4K phone screens all over again, but this time without even a single reason that proves it's worth, with a 4K screen on phone you get some good VR, with 384 kHz 32 bit DACs you get numbers that the amp will ignore, you'll literally not even see the difference on an oscilloscope or audio analyzer.

Their DAC have THD of 84dB which is more than enough and the headphone amplifiers have 0.02% THD. Even the best headphone has a THD of 0.1-0.5%. So, the distortion of DAC and amplifier is about 30dB below the distortion of the headphone which is inaudible for most people.
The average quality of audio in smartphones has advanced so much that there is no need to worry about it all.

AnonD-205566, 24 Aug 2016Ok. So I've read two pages now and most of these comments b... moreThe only thing I have here is that this entire 32 bit DAC is a total load of bull. Never seen a single 24 bit DAC that can reach the full dynamic range of 24 bits, let alone come close to the 32.
They totally should focus on the amp and signal processing, otherwise this is the same old number war all over again. 384 kHz sample rates and 32 bits really have no difference, audible or even mathematical over anything ever recorded on studio, I really just have hopes that the DAC is GOOD, because you know, any Realtek onboard audio on most PCs can do 192 kHz samples, at a horribly lower quality than my old Audigy SE at 96 kHz.
Specially if they cap the audio at audible frequency range, it's a total waste of any sample rate higher than CD (44.1kHz), and this is incredibly common for audio, a lowpass capacitor at the end of the audio chain.

Ok. So I've read two pages now and most of these comments baffle me. Either most people commenting are just trolls, this is deliberate marketing by some other OEM, or they're just plain dumb.
The point of this whole article is the DAC. The point of a good DAC and amp is music playback through headphones, not through speakers. This is supposedly going to be the best DAC ever on a smartphone, thus if paired with an equally good amp headphone playback should be in a league of its own. Yes, it would be a step forward for LG if they put stereo front facing speakers on the V20, but nobody (neither LG nor GSMA) are implying anything about speaker playback.
So just shut your pieholes and wait before you throw a tantrum :) willya?

ahhh this 32 bit DAC bull feces again... Please LG just go for a more than overkill 24 bit one (that's 144 db dynamic range for the ones wondering what's so good about that), and try to reach that dynamic range, with a good amp instead.
No recording/playback device EVER reached that level of dynamic range on output, and I mean the 144 db from 24 bits, 32 is just number bragging, nothing else.
Keeping the 3.5mm jack (since they brag about the DAC they sure will do it), add a good high impedance headphone amp, and you're all set. Concentrate on stuff that actually make any sense in physics not just numbers please.
