Intel announces 7th generation 'Kaby Lake' processors

30 August, 2016
Intel has taken the wraps off the 7th generation of Core processors. Called internally as 'Kaby Lake', the new processors are based on Intel's 14nm (or 14nm+) architecture and are a refined version of last year's 'Skylake' series.

AnonD-286474, 30 Aug 2016I still use an i5 2500 , desktop processors are stagnating ... moreReally?

Snapdragon 600 > 800 > 810 > 820

They are anything but stagnant.

AnonD-255623, 31 Aug 2016See but when you invest in a PC you want maximum performanc... moreyou are right in normal activities but when software require more bandwidth you can get 50% or more improvement by using faster ddr4 ram

check eurogamer review of i3 6100
      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-intel-core-i3-6100-review

scroll down to gaming benchmark and look to game called ryse
-when they use 2133mhz ddr4 ram they got 58fps
-when they use 2666mhz ddr4 ram they got 103fps

same hardware and faster ram increase perfomance almsot 50% together with some ipc improvements and clock boost you will get decent speed bump.

haswell and older generation didnt scale well with faster ram but skylake got big improvement from faster ram

viveksubhash, 31 Aug 2016do we have to go into the core debate again?? by rule of ... moreas i said earlier desktop 4th generation are fine but you said you have i7 26xxm which is not good for today standard, that is laptop sandy bridge cpu. latest games wont run on that cpu even if you have better gpu.

AnonD-214858, 31 Aug 2016yes 4th generation i7 are fine(desktop or quad mobile) but ... moredo we have to go into the core debate again??
by rule of thumb in my opinion, the new gen i5 is as good as previous gen i7, new gen i3 as good as 2gen old i7..that is correct..but what i am saying is that the cost of upgrade to a new core also entails a new board and ram..correct me if i'm wrong
however we can just get an awesome grphic card which will give an awesome performance boost...of course there are 2 pre-requisites to this..the original processor should have been something good in the first place(like my i7 4970k) so that a double generation jump feels like nothing. secondly it should be a desktop

I have core i7-2600K and it works really awesome and strong, maybe xeon for next switch would work better than new gen of core i.

I'm sorry but if you had a full-specced setup with a i7 4th gen or i7 5th gen all these improvements wont equal 25% of a boost at about 75% of additional cost. This upgrade would be worth it for those upgrading their machines from 2nd 3rd gen i7s if they had everything at max already, know what Im sayin?

viveksubhash, 31 Aug 2016well...1st of all i was doing was agreeing with someone say... moreyes 4th generation i7 are fine(desktop or quad mobile) but not dual core sandy bridge laptop cpu. and its not about gpu its about cpu power,

4th generation laptop cpu like core i3 4110m will easily beat i7 dual core from sandy bridge because all of them have two core with hyperthread while 4th has higher ipc

AnonD-214858, 31 Aug 2016not all people have same usage like you, that cpu cant even... morewell...1st of all i was doing was agreeing with someone saying i5 is adequate...secondly its glaringly obvious that my old processor can't run new games..but that mostly because of the graphic card..my 4th gen i7 is running witcher 3 without probs..for more demanding games we have GPUs..the newer processors work their wonder in gagets like the upcoming surface, where it can do most of the stuff by itself...and finally upgrading from 4th gen to 7th gen is gonna rip a hole in my pocket...next year maybe

AnonD-255623, 30 Aug 2016So on the desktop side of things, no need to go above 4th g... morethere are many benefits
-faster ddr4 ram, you can get even 50% perfomance boost by using faster ram compare to slow one in software which need more bandwidth.
-edram which used as l4 cache
                      -thunderbolt 3 for external gpu
-kabylake has insane clocks, and will have more tdp for oveclocking to get even better clocks
-new motherboard features like 20 pcie lanes (compare to 8 of older generations), usb 3 10 ports (compare to 6 of older gen), if you want to run multiple gpu, ssd etc then lga1151 is the way to go
                      -low power usage
                      -better igpu etc

It's actually the opposite. They got fast really quick and still have way more room to improve compared to desktop CPUs.

The major change is in the internal intel's graphic 💳 card.. The thunderbolt 3 port is already exist in 6th gen mobility processesors so no major change but thunderbolt ports are welcome..
