Apple lowers fee for screen replacement under AppleCare+ to $29

07 September 2016
Some changes were made to Apple’s first-party product protection and support plan. While the company didn’t mention it onstage, 9to5Mac was quick to find that screen repairs under AppleCare+ will no longer cost $99, but rather will cost only $29.

This is basically like insurance, if nothing happens to your phone (which most people will not have), they eat your money. It's a good stream of revenue by putting fear in people with high repair cost. Can't they just charge the price of the hardware at cost then just add in labour?

But I would not be at all surprised if even a minor dent in the frame would be considered "additional damage" by aPple. And if so the deal is much less bad, as an out of warranty repair would then be roughly half the price of a new device, where a covered repair would 'only' cost $129+99

Obviously AppleCare is a feasible revenue center for them as they continue the program. I don't question the value because 1) ultimately sales and sustainability will validate the whole program itself and 2) it is Apple, afterall. Like all Apple products, Apple likes to really test the market to see just how much people will pay for its products, including AppleCare.

You're still getting the worst deal, though. :-P Come on, this site should at least invite you to their offices to intern, for free of course, but at least you could put it on your resume.

Don't worry, Eske, nobody's going to get as bad as deal as you've gotten being the highest unpaid contributor to this site. They offer you a paid job yet? Didn't think so.

Considering the second column, it sound like a really bad offer.

Since one change would cost you $129 if you do NOT buy it. $158 if you do sounds like a really bad deal... Unless you expect to drop it with a broken screen twice - and that must be within two years.

It seems like a really high premium to at the very best save $71, and if you do drop it once or not at all you lost money.... So much for "protecting your investment" .... Sounds like standard aPple rip-off me...
