Because Samsungs reputation has been tarnished over the Note 7 debacle, and are reluctant to take the risk with other Samsung hardware ?.

Asus won't update it or really try to support the phone and MIGHT bring Android 7 to it in a year and a half is the big problem here imo.

Just ordered Axon 7 (both EU and USA 4G bands vs. One plus 3), newegg shall start to ship them out tomorrow.
I'm not longer waiting for Zenfone 3, terrible expensive.

Why all that fuss about the pricing? The hardware is top notch and above everything else on the market right now, it has a nice design and great the materials are very good too.
Too expensive? Just skip it, I don't see ASUS pointing a gun at ur heads.

$800 price tags works only for Apple and Samsung, others should not event think of it, it requires years of affort to reach where Samsung and Apple are. Asus, Just by dumping high end specs into one, does mean you can expect customer to buy at that price.
Asus $800 phone is DOA..
Thumb rule for Asus, don't expect more than $350 phone for ur brand name
