SamX, 14 Sep 2016what do you mean forced??? you have the option to install t... moreSure, allow me to revise it a bit for you. [Even though updating is notified and optional], the generally unrivaled fast adoption rate to the latest version update available makes updating iOS look either seemingly forced or seemingly uncomplicated, effortless, infallible, or seamless (as with dealing minimal hassle or hurdle, akin to the definition of easy). Since I have no evidence (or too lazy to look for one) to support my own implications of iOS' adoption rate as whether it is caused particularly by the aforementioned context (by force or by its easiness), I employed the terms 'look' to indicate an observable condition and a suffixed 'seem' to indicate a perceived condition. It should have occurred to you that I was not making any absolute, supported, factual, nor document-backed claims. The reason for iOS' quick adoption rate might not even be due to forced measures or seamless methods at all for all the average consumers know

[deleted post]Only if there is new Open Source OS....
Only if there is an alternative to Play Store....
Only if there is an alternative to variety of Android Phones (From $50 to $900)....
Only if there that new Open Source OS is compatible with other OSes (Windows\iOS\others)...
Only if there is rapid development in that new Open Source OS...

Think and understand.....many companies tried their hands with this new Open Source OS....but seems never worked....Tizen from Samsung.....FireOS from Mozilla....

These are just various Android Iterations numbers....Android is here to stay

Android code get's open after it's final release.

So phone manufacturers have to get know with source, with new API, ask Qualcomm or Mediatek for drivers (because they never thought submit their drivers to mainstream linux kerne (that would be make easy not for only android, but also for other linux based mobile OS-es), build, port current software, test , test more and so goes...

And you know when it comes to do that for a device from where OEM makes about $10 profit, no one will care and no one gonna do that...

                And as for flagships...
Even the fastest one will need at least two or three months to make update worth sending to users, not bug bag.

If Android had centralized update system with drivers distributed openly and being opensource, that would be easier, as OEM-s would have to test their propieatery software against already build images and drivers. They wouldn't waste time (And money) searching code and drivers.

It would be also good to get rid JVM and allow C apps instead.

Nothing new. At least, for Android, it has always been a recycled news that, ON AVERAGE, the previous version, over time, catches up or even surpasses on market share growth when a later version gets released. Such an Android pattern anyone following Android's distribution through the years shouldn't be surprised about. While iOS may have a different story to share on the topic of adoption rate it, likewise, does not emanate any surprising factor either. Their history of distribution to the latest of versions have GENERALLY been timely or speedy

But in my experience, I've really tried to find benefits from my upgrade from 4.4 to 5.0 on my tablet. Suddenly one day it came to me, and after that I tried to spot anything that 5.0 did better than 4.4. Could be just me, or my tablet's skinned Android, but it was close to no difference. The upgrade didn't improve speed much, nor smoothness, it was good to begin with and kept the same almost, some differences were easy to spot, but mostly just cosmetic stuff like task bar changes and the softkeys. I'll take a step further and say that not much changed since the 4.2 that my phone is stuck at, some few things (like SD card permissions) were actually better at 4.2.
Some people do notice differences easily and all, but aren't those the most tech savvy people that usually go for the best models or at least best bang for buck ones? Even tho I do consider myself one, the "stop the differences" game didn't give me much results, literally the only thing that came as a big hit was not being able to install Pokemon Go on my phone - that I don't have data plan to play on the go to begin with.

I've felt that it's been some incremental but not essential changes ever since 4.0 or such.
