Stondec100, 19 Sep 2016I don't see the point in this app without SMS integration. ... moreThis app is a way for Google to mine everybody's text messages (the default is not encrypted, you have to manually set it to incognito mode), and washes their hands off when there are things happening later (Oh, we do offer encryption, it's user's fault for not enabling it).

I don't see the point in this app without SMS integration. WhatsApp already functions well and is already very widely used and certainly doesn't need to be replaced. Google at launch should integrate all the functionality of Hangouts into Allo and phase out Hangouts, otherwise Allo will fail woefully.

I agree entirely
Too many messaging app causing confusion and incompatibilities.
Why do they need more than 1 to handle communication?
I'm still using Hangouts - works fine thanks.
Certainly don't like the idea of some AI predicting my messages thanks Google! I can speak / text for myself!

So we will have AOSP messenger app, Google's own Messenger app, Hangouts, Google Voice, and then this.
In real life, people will just stick with Whatsapp/Line/Wechat, things that they and their friends are already using.
