I think it's smart that they went with sunglasses instead of prescription lenses like Google's version. It forces people to record in the day when the view is nice and bright - better videos that way.

I now have the iPhone 5C, it's laggy but usable.
My main phone, Xperia Z5 works just fine for about 5 minutes, then it becomes very slow, when using the camera over 5 minutes, it'll lag really badly.
Asked my friends using: Galaxy S4/S5/S6/E, Huawei P9L, Note 3/4, Xperia Z3/C/Z5, Motorola Moto E (2nd)/G (1st, 2nd) - they're all having the same issues, not only me. Snappy isn't optimised well.
Instagram stories on the other hand is a basic copy of Snapchat, and I've never experienced any lag whatsoever.
