Just started last six months using Chromebook. The first purchase of a chromebook was for my eighth grade son to take to school and save his Lenova Yoga II. I now have 2 chromebox and three chromebooks in the family. I am in my mid 50's and have worked in computer programming and databases for 30 years. I just started using a ChromeBox on my two 27" monitors that were hooked up to a Mac Mini. I am surprised and very satisfied with the Chrome OS. I have Mac server running on three mac mini's that use VM Fusion for Windows 10, 7 etc. and host my mail servers and web servers. I do have to use a couple of different types of Remote Desktop programs to connect to OSx, Windows, etc.
A bonus I have found Chromebook to be the best for my parents and inlaws and there is very little learning because it is just a browser.
I have been using Macs since 2001. And will continue to use them to host websites and WMware Window and Mac OS's. I develop mostly on the windows platform, but also develop webpages, ios and android apps. When I can purchase a $150 chromebox to connect to the office computers and my home servers instead of spending $1,000+ for a PC or 2,000 for a Mac to do the same thing. NOT a hard decision to make.

Not sure you know what a chromebook is ... Chromebook is your access to the internet-browser based PC,you will need it anyway, the rest can come from apps already today... and this is also the future.
Android apps work perfectly already today on my Asus Chromebook Flip, better than on a mobile phone... so what is new?

Pixel C is the most boring useless device I've ever owned. I'd love to return it. Chromebook has always been a failure too. These guys need to stick to mobile stuff only and stop deviating.

SwerveDude, 26 Sep 2016I think this would be a great thing for Google to do, but o... moreHalf baked did you tasted it? I am using for last year and it is running completely hassle free, windows 10 is indeed the best operating system in the market you can count on.

Google is a specialist in failure. They are famous for Google search engine which was real talent-sweat and Android. They have forgotten how to democratize technology and obsessed with Apple and want to follow them.

For that price ($800) I'd rather get a decent laptop with some gaming video card (in case I want to game on mobile platform). If they want to sell a laptop-esque device they need to realize nobody's going to pay extra for "Google" branding. They spent years trying to prove Google products are "affordable yet good". Now they want to say "Pixel is the next Apple"? Then I'll just take Xiaomi. Its more for less.
See you in a year, Google dear.

Excited to see a Pixel laptop with better offline functionality. Hardware wide they are the best I have ever used. I would totally buy a Pixel 3 if it has support for offline apps that I use.

Note7, 26 Sep 2016Too me too many deviations and variations !!! Nexus line, P... moreMy thoughts exactly. It annoys me that they keep changing names. I'm surprised they stuck with "Google" lol considering how they shut down and create new products and services so quickly.

Just Like Google was wrong about Google chrome Books , they will be wrong about Pixel as well. Just the change of Name , Same OS , with no latest features at all .

promising... but starting the rumours as of now will just create more and more expectations so they'll have to deliver even more than that... let's hope they come with a great device (2 in 1 can be great) ^_^

Too me too many deviations and variations !!! Nexus line, Pixel Line etc...Not sure why they are complicating it so much? Google needs to settle down and support the ecosystem for clean 5 years. Otherwise, people will jump the Google Ship sooner than later!

I think this would be a great thing for Google to do, but only if they could make an amazing desktop experience - instead of releasing half-baked software like Windows 10.
