There's a reason why Sony kept losing money before when they tried to target a wider range of audience. People are not stupid, and there is no value in Sony's premium pricing. Now Somy know who are still willing to pay premium for their brand, thus they padded more margins for less features and positioned their products just to their own fans. And it works. It's a good strategy for Sony. Becoming more profitable is key.
The rest of consumers have voted with their wallet and buy something else.

Actually, be leaving the low-mid-range price points and focus on premium has led Sony Mobile to finally be profitable. As evident here, there are still Sony fanboys willing to shell out $$$ for Sony branded products.

[deleted post]True. However, pricing your product as premium means you do have to offer an actual premium device. Trying to sell a premium smartphone without expected features like fingerprint sensor (in the US) is a joke. Heck, Sony uses plastic lenses on the Z5 (hopefully they stop doing that with the XZ).
It is then clear who Sony's target market, their own fanboys. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing, Sony Mobile is now profitable thanks to this strategy.
