30 September 2016
An update to the Gear VR app, Oculus, was causing some S6 and S7 variants to run quite warm. Even when on standby.

Wait, is this also the reason for the overheating and fast battery drain from the replacement Note 7 a few days ago?

In other way around, Samsung could (should instead) buy them altogether. Let alone the entire Samsung corporation that holds 17% of total south Korean GDP!

I'm just curious which versions of the phones are heating up so much. Is it just Snapdragon versions? Or Exynos too? We all know Qualcomm made a faulty flagship SoC 2 years in a row (overheating CPU on 810, GPU on 820). Problem with Samsung is, they put memory chips very close to the processors (sometimes even on top of each other), which is causing the phone to heat up pretty badly anyway. If the rumor is true, and they plan to ditch Qualcomm completely, having Exynos in flagships and MediaTek in the rest of devices, it would be really wise choice for Samsung, but they also have to solve their design issues. It's a bad year for Samsung, and a bit of a wake up call, hopefully they will learn from this lesson.

Good article. Some other websites would say that the S7 and S6 will likely explode and you must exchange if for an iPhone as soon as you can. That's why I love GSMArena, they are neutral.

I'm a tech enthusiast and i read about tech news whenever i have time, 24/7 if i can say.

I use like 5-10 websites (plus a bunch of twitter) to stay up-to-date, but GSMA. is the site i visit the most on a daily basis. Not because they're the fastest posting (unfortunately they aren't) the news and stuff like that, but more like because they post quality reviews, news and overall content. No clickbait, no 'fanboyism', no nothing.

Everything stays relevant, nice and clear. (and honest)

Fudge me. I had manually back my phone up was gonna flash it and if that hadnt fixed the battery drain issue , I was gonna send my phone away for repairs. This is why I cant stand these obnoxious updates. Now im just gonna delete that oculus app instead as i dont own a VR headset

                      Case closed

GSMArena is probably the best and most professional tech site I've ever been on. If this news goes upon, let say BGR, than the headline would have been, "Samsung still have a problem with over heating phone, and this time, it's not the Note 7" or "This is the reason you should avoid all Samsung's flagship" and proceed to telling that the iPhone 7 is better and bla bla bla

Seriously, I have no problem with any Apple news or how people say the iPhone is better than any other smartphone.I own an iPhone. But BGR article are childish and if you go to BGR.com, you'll know what I'm talking about. They even say that the Xiomi Mi 5s copied the iPhone "8" by using the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on their phones.

Anyway, goob GSMArena for the non biased journalism.

My friend has VR and lately he rooted his s7 edge and he enjoyed the root a lot.
But his phone started to running slow and hot
So he tought the problem was from root and he returned to stock and told me root sux and will never root again.

I think He will be in shock when he reads this :D

hi, Ricky!... My comments will be off topic...i've been a fan of GSMA for several years now...i always check your site almost everyday... one thing i miss mostly is the "counterclockwise" and the top OEM/phone manufacturers history...it is really fun to read the topics especially about history...i hope that you can bring it back and more power to you all...

PS...i cannot submit an email using the contact us option, so i'm writing on this page instead... :)

-that is not how you should cool down your phone if it's excessively hot and even OEM's advise not to cool down phone that way , I'm little bit surprised that professional phone reviewer doesn't know it.

The problem has already been solved and it wasn't even Samsung's fault. So why feel the need to name the product being used?
