Verizon to manage Android updates to Pixel phones it sells

06 October 2016
However, Google will push security patches directly to all Pixel phones, regardless of carrier.

What kind of stupidity is this? Why would Google allow this? I thought they were attempting to compete with the way Apple has control over things.

M not sure why google would support this ? when apple updates are not controlled by verizon why are they controlling android ?
Why such double standards ? because they are not man enough to do the same to iphones ?
Shame on verizon and shame on google !
Google should have just sticked to selling on play store .. it doesn't make any sense when phones are available unlocked on play store why would u again sell it through carrier ??? Google WTF ??

Verizon has flexed its muscle in an anti competitive way especially with Windows phones, as you need to be Windows 8.2 in order to get Windows 10, Verizon are on a release that came out over 1.5 years ago

here is the kicker so GOOGLE it as too long to type
The flagship Microsoft Lumia 950 is a world phone have BOTH CDMA & GSM antenae so you could use an unlocked phone on any network anywhere on this planet

Verizon did NOT allow Microsoft to switch on the CDMA antenae so the Lumia 950 is GSM
only as the CDMA part if off it can't be used on Sprint also so effectively a GSM only phone that can't be activated even by software uopdate to be used on CDMA

Like I said google Verizon & lumia 950 and those customers using Pixel on Verizon

            GOOD LUCK

What's the point of owning Google branded phone if you don't get the feature this line is best known for (regular updates from Google directly)?! Stupid Verizon...

Prepare for non-uninstallable, constant background running, Verizon bloatware hell!! I remember the Verizon Note 5 ran 20 or so Verizon-specific background app processes that started on boot, so while the Pixel's Android experience will be much better due to it's vanilla-esque flavor, Verizon may use that as an excuse to add even more sponsored apps that aren't uninstallable. Most current VZW Android devices run YP.com, Uber, NFL, and a few more, and while they can be disabled, they cannot be removed.

STAY AWAY FROM BIG RED'S DEVICES!! BUY UNLOCKED!!

Sent from my wonderfully bloat-free OnePlus 3!

Say hello to more carrier bloatware. Lol.

i dont understand the obsession with people getting software updates...i have used the nexus 7..it was a perfectly alright device..chugging along with its weak nvidia chip, when google decided to update the firmware..now it runs like a pentium 2 processor..great..and the remedies available online is to flash firmware to older version

                          They abandoned Nexus loyalist.
The Nexus 6 and Nexus 6p did uplift the Nexus branding really well yet they did this while in the momentum. Good thing that there's Cyanogen and others that could continue or could take over the Vanilla idea. Make collaboration with Xiaomi , meizu to make a Nexus like series.

Carrier updates are crap. Apple knows it and is the ONLY who's staying true. Disappointed in Google. Flex your muscles and make Verizon obey.

Nexus users are f**ked. Well done Google. BTW, if they want to send 'Stock Android by Google' to mass, they have to revive Nexus lineup. Because they are not gonna sell much of these Pixel phones. Please don't tell me about sold out blue version, may be verizon stored them all for their store of Google made only few hundreds of them may be.

(I am veryyyy disappointed about these phone. Hell, OnePlus would make a better phone than this!!!)

if u remove access to latest updates from pixel , what is left ? google assistant! , google will soon make that the average for all android phones . . so major fail from google , no point of pixel now except source of new income !!!

booooooooooo. on google and verizon for this obvious blunder.
