Nokia NGAGE flopped because the market is not ready for a phone-gaming device. There's no demand on it. Even the PSP was on it's advent. But now mobile gaming is on its peak at competitions is on the edge, I can bet PSPhone will not fail. But please put a TV-out or HDMI support.

Savor, 29 Nov 2010Ask yourself, why did the N-Gage flop? Did Nokia have any r... morecomparison to N-gage is very acurate. N-gage AND N-gage 2.0(look it up if you dont know) had plenty of third party support. yes the first version failed because the device was complicated to use, was very ugly, and talking on it just looked stupid.

Alternatively the n-gage 2.0 platform was good and snakes subsonic was the best game i ever played on a phone (i know because i had an n-gage 2.0 device). this n-gage 2.0 also failed because lack of advertisement, support, and sales. also most games were 9.99 which was why there was little support

this device is doomed for the same fate because developers don't want the code a whole game and sell it for $10 a piece. i believe they will try to sell these device specific games for a little more than 10 dollars a pop because again they are device specific and will not work on other devices.

so in the end if the games for this device are high priced, sales for games will suffer and support will obviously fade and it will fail. also if prices are low, developers would rather opt-out and develop games for say xbox 360, kinect, ps3, ps3 move, or the wii and make more money because thats what these companies are about.

honestly i do not see this taking off at all

maybe because sony do not want a conflict of interest in some points that's why they choose not to create a psp phone but if it does even the iphone 4 cannot beat it....

Ask yourself, why did the N-Gage flop? Did Nokia have any real experience like Sony does? Did Nokia have the third-party support like Sony has? Was the N-Gage even portable enough? Face it, the N-Gage was an ugly looking device shaped like a taco that came into the market at the wrong time without much third-party support or gaming experience. It is like saying the original PlayStation would flop in 1994/1995 because the 3DO flopped. We live in an era where cell phones is ready to take on serious games. If you think about it, the Wii-mote is just like the Power Glove. The DS designs is similar to the Game & Watch from the early 1980's. And after the Virtual Boy debacle, Nintendo plans to release the 3DS which should be a hit. Sometimes the idea needs to be rehashed because the market isn't ready for it because the latest "fad." N-Gage came around the height of flip phones that needed to be thinner and the early days of the DS and PSP. Hello!? Comparing this phone to an N-Gage is narrow minded, short-sighted, and a laughable argument at best.

I expected this since Sony may want to save the best gaming content for the PSP 2 under their own branding. This phone competes more with the iPhone offerings of games. The true successor to PSP will get released late next year and go head to head against the 3DS. This is still big news for gamers and cell phone enthusiasts alike. More convergence with gaming and cell phones. Google and SE should also be rejoicing. The latter has been on a slump. Imagine an Android that could play classic PS1 games for $10 or less without a need to hack or deal with slow emulators. This is a major coup for Android and Sony has always had strong third-party support. The question is if this becomes a major hit, will it cannabalize the PSP 2's sales potential. The PSP 2 is already fighting an uphill battle against Nintendo already. I plan to buy ALL three. And if one of them kinda sucks or just overkill, I will sell it off. Plan to own two phones (iPhone 4, Xperia gaming phone) and two dedicated gaming handhelds (3DS, PSP 2) by next year. I love technology and hardly a blind fanboy for any of them. I try to enjoy them all.

its a playstation-phone, not a playstation-portable-phone. keep that in mind. and now google is into gaming. how about a playstation tablet? hehe, i love techology. :)

Does anyone take into account that, except for maybe 5-10 titles, the loss of the PSP library is really a negligible sacrifice? Maybe it's the stunning underperformance of Sony's handheld that would make them ditch PlayStation branding? If this were to become "the PSP phone" that would almost certainly have the gaming community calling their PSP Go the phone that should have been, the child of the PSP family with a birth defect, because, really why shouldn't the Go have reached higher? It was a head-scratcher to all the gamers I know who don't simply buy every gaming thing released.
