And yet they have no removable batteries, no sd slots and no dual sim...So if they wanted to target power users, they should have started with the hardware. But it's nothing new, it's always been the same way with the nexus.

But when you get pixel, you can enable developer settigs, and enable the function whih allows to unlock bootloader. Then plug your phone in pc, through ADB type something like ADB BOOTLOADER UNLOCK or something like that (idk exactly) and then voila, bootloader is unlocked. Though, this will void software warranty i think, maybe after rooting warranty will be voided, so anyways, anything you do, you are responsible.

The primarh reason to root your nexus would be to remove the huge ugly, intrusive and useless searchbar that is about to get doubled in size(20% of the screen in every tab) and together with the trademark huge bezel ( more than 30% bezel of the total dimensions) on every nexus and now pixel and ultimately 10% less for the status bad and 10% less for the meny bar, after google has banned capacitive buttons on their devices, totals in about 50-60% of the frontal surface of your phone/tablet wasted, you carry a six inch brich, only to use less than 3 inch for your preferable content, the least they can do is offer us those open bootloaders so that we can try and risk or device, while voiding or quarantee, so that we can reclaim that 20% of our screen back...

so, is it locked or unlocked by default ?
last time I read google advised that all newer android devices should have their bootloader locked by default. wast it Xiami fans got angry because they phone bootloader locked and it was took up to 30 days to get unlock permission ( now it takes around 3 days).
