I like big fat laptops because 1) I have one and 2) because of the specs; I'll get on-board thin laptops when more and more use regular Core i's.

A bit light on for memory which is now getting cheaper so why sacrifice mem with only 256 SSD? The price at $999.99 (Amazon), why pay more? Seems high. If you want to win, add mem to 1024, increase screen size to 15.6 and add a PEN capability.

I returned just another ecosystem-centric of a macbook air for a most possible upgradable portable but not a planned for obsolescence mac or i any thing.

AnonD-312515, 16 Oct 2016Oh then I retract my statement, just another MacBook wannabe. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with MacBook because USB Type-C & thunderbolt 3 has officially developed and announced by Intel as a successor of current interface,.. if we like it or not, probably most future laptops have to be this thin using USB-C.

FYI, Sony made 12.7mm(.5") thin 680g(1.5lb) laptop in 2009, though it packed sluggish Atom then. I did have the one and sold it within a few month lol
Anyway, as you said I won't lay so much hope on Core M :-(

AnonD-510098, 15 Oct 2016Went out just and ended up buying this: http://www.pcwor... moreThis is fine, but my tip is to buy an SSD and install it. 256GB will be more than enough. You saved up £50 from your deal so you can buy an 256GB SSD from Intenso, although I would recommend Samsung but they are pricier. You can of course also go for a 128GB Samsung with faster speed. The read speed is the most important.
SSD is the best invention in the past few years in Technologie (besides the ARM architecture). For example my low end MacBook Air 2014 with 128GB SSD (as you already know that I own that) is faster than my family high end iMac 2013 with 1TB HDD in things like booting up, starting apps, transferring data etc.

Unlike Spectre, this one packs Core i5-7Y54 (confusing moniker of core M)

It looks similar to the nice looking Spectre. Is it very similar in quality etc I wonder what the differences are besides some cosmetic appearances. Spectre seemed to appeal to ladies but I think it looks pretty good also cut held back. This is similar colouring.
