Google Pixel survives an hour under water

23 October 2016
Unlike most of the flagship smartphones these days, the Google Pixel doesn’t come with a water resistance rating that allows it to be submerged under water. It only has an IP53 rating, which means it can survive light sprays of water at an angle.

viveksubhash, 23 Oct 2016yeah..but what can i say people are careless...and somtimes... moreIt should be remembered that sweat is salty, and thus worse than plain water in electronics.

But that said,it is poor design if sweat from hand or head can easily enter the device under normal usage conditions.

They probably under-rate the phone to prevent people to do extreme test on them that will hurt their reputation. Then they will release a exclusive version that have IP68 rating for Japan which is the same phone.

I don't care for IPxx rating because I am not dumb to take a shower with my clothes on, or go on a swim with my phone in my shorts. I used every other phone I had in the rain, and I must say (apart from the Lumia 920, which i could send texts even with water on its display) I never had problems with water infiltration. So the Ip rating is irellevant for me.

Speaker blown is still a phone water damaged which shall require repair costs. So essentially, it has not "survived" as opposed to what the title suggests.

the idea behind waterproofing phones is to keep us worry free over a 1000$ phone that can get fused with a bout 1ml of water, which may happen if you spill a glass of water on the dinner table..you accidently let the phone fall in the bathroom sink(bathroom selfie addicts obviously)..only sony explored using the the phone underwater, and of course the note 7, but sadly it was discontinued..people started abusing the sony's claim that it can survive underwater, half hour under water and a short dive are 2 entirely different things...anyway, sony started getting complains...so it did what any sane person would do, take away the dangerous weapon from the toddler(metaphorically speaking, obviously)..and i also want to know if the water used is distilled? the test is somewhat useless then

BTW the iPhone7 speaker also was gone even after 32min. under the water.(32min instead of 30min, may be to give excuse to Apple) CNET test.
Only Samsung can make really water resistant phones. And may be Sony.

what most people don't know is that water damage on electronics usually occurs later...
... I would like to know does it work even few days after this ''submersion'' test - probably not!

Wow so reassuring, only a speaker will be blown. That means your phone will still need a repair. Nor is it water resistant.

Well it goes to show the news on Pixel just keeps getting better. For all the years no one thought of, or worried anything about water. Old Nokia days wasn't in anyone's mind set. Pixel is splash resistant and that suffices.

Remember from the torture test that it is fabric in front of the speaker. So this will most likely get soaked, and I would say there is a good chance the speaker will recover once it is dried completely up.

One could start with some kitchen roll and try to draw as much water out as possible..
