Video calling comes back to WhatsApp beta on Android

25 October 2016
A few months ago, WhatsApp nixed video calling from the Beta version of the App on Android. Users that had the correct version of the WhatsApp beta were able to make calls, until the feature was disabled.

AnonD-11127, 26 Oct 2016Whatsapp doesn't generate revenue. At least not as of yet. ... moreYes Skype may lose some users but skype have security password where whatsapp missing this feature............... Those who want best video calling experience with best security will go to Skype and Majority will go to whatsapp ........... I don't think Skype will get same fate like viber............. It will be like one is using Best Quality Iphone (Skype) and other is using open application with no security like android :)

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2016Because Google allo Is doing so well! Whatsapp needs to respond Allo doing so well you say? After spending the last month virtually forcing friends and family to install the app I only have 21 installs out of over 500 contacts. People kept asking why I care so much about Google. Now even me, the biggest Google fan, is starting to give up. Google is not generating any excitement about Allo, it's so frustrating.

Why would FB run a rival messenger to FB messenger? And not just hobble it....
Or is it a case of increasing market control either way?

Facebook bought Whatsapp for user data. Whatsapp has more messages exchanges than facebook messenger. So now, they have a majority of all the message exchanges in the world going through their servers.

Skype, although being a great service, has a poorly maintained app. It's slow and heavy. Once video calling is activated on whatsapp, Skype will lose a lot of users and ad-revenue in the process.
