Some guy from Greece, 12 Dec 2010"Care to explain why Android is growing at an exponent... moreDo you honestly think it's just coincidence that Nokia's decline started when the iPhone launched? And that decline only got worst at the rise of Android.

It's because people don't like how combersome Symbian is. People found a better alternative in Android and iOS and no matter which UI it is, may it be Sense, Timescape, or TouchWiz, it's still more user friendly than the old Symbian. People voted with their wallets and Nokia is forced to move on to Meego on their flagship N series. Nokia knows that Symbian just doesn't cut it and that is why they are moving their high end phones to Meego.

Crap is crap and even if you put it on the best hardware, it's still crap!

Droid Rampage, 12 Dec 2010Care to explain why Android is growing at an exponential ra... more"Care to explain why Android is growing at an exponential rate at the expense of Symbian?"

No i don't. Do you? Yes you do! And you say it is Adroids friendliness.
Which adroids? There are more than three UI out there. Friendliest of them is Sony's yet it's the only "Adroid company" that's losing market share. Still think it's a matter of friendliness?
It wasn't the fact that Nokia was years late in touchscreen trend? Wasn't it that Koreans and Chinese ofer better technicals for the same money? Maybe the fact that only 1 out of 7 new mobiles is Nokia? None of these had anything to do with Nokia's decline?

I'm not a market analyst. I just shared some thoughts with everyone here about OSs. I meant to show how subjective it is to either be satisfied or not by a UI and concequently how stupid is all the bashing that takes place in these comments....

How do you explain why Nokia lost $77 Billion in market value since 2007? It's because people moved on to more user friendly devices like Android and iOS.

The most interesting part of Nokia's success is that it has trained the customers to use a mobile phone in it's own certain way. To ask for a good camera, have an initial page and a central menu...

You see, familiarity is a key element for what we call friendliness in a User Interface. I just can't help it finding my S60 Symbian the easiest OS, since it's the one i know better! It's that simple.
While Xperia's X8 is by far the easiest, smoothest, most natural UI it just can't beat the familiarity that roots from my S40. I'm faster (in what i do with my phone) when using Symbian and unwilling to go through (few) months of inconvenience, learning features that i don't really use.

Of course moving forward will become a necessity, eventually, but up until then, i have a real life to live instead of learning some phone's gimmicks*...

*i refer to the midrange touchphones

Anonymous, 12 Dec 2010 That's what I'm trying to tell him, that symbian is old, ... morethe truth is, Nokia is very far from falling, they have large army of phones bombarding the market that even Samsung can't do it, even if all companies unified together can't outnumbering the sales of Nokia phones as a whole.

this is helping them by the time they transition to MeeGo OS.
