These devices should be put into a safe. And users be given replacement units for their daily use. This way, they get to keep their devices too and use another one.

FNticked, 09 Nov 2016I am one of those who has not returned my phone. I have not... moreI still have mine as well. I love this phone!! Just have not found anything that makes it worth giving back. Last night mine just updated out of nowhere, couldn't stop it. :( It has never had an issue with getting hot, charging or mot. Now since they forced this update it gets really hot. They say this was done to eliminate/reduce the risk of explosion, I say it's going to cause one!! Have not heard of one Note catching fire since the second recall, why couldn't they just leave things alone?? So now I really am being forced to swap it out for something else..Guess I will see what the S7 Edge is like. Seriously may even look for another Note 5. Booo

All Samsung did by doing this is requiring the phone to be on a charger more with more of a chance for something to happen. I for one am not giving mine up until there is a phone to replace it. I paid for it outright.

I oredered my replacement weeks ago. Even paid for more memory that I don't really need in order to get it sooner, but all IPhones are on backorder. I won't get mine until 11/20. (If I had gotten the one with less memory it would be here sometime in December.) Until then I have to plug this death trap in more often which, to me, seems more dangerous. It does get awfully warm while charging. Before this update I could charge in increments or let it charge in the fridge (don't judge), but now it's constantly needing to be charged so those options are no longer viable. My options: cancel my IPhone order and get a phone that I don't want today, or no phone, or continue to risk death until my phone comes in. I hated my S6 edge so I know what it's like to have a phone that you don't want. Must have a phone. Reluctantly, I'll risk death. Don't worry, I won't try to sneak it on to a plane. Maybe I should strap it to my chest, go find a Samsung store.... Kidding!

People holding onto their Note like their last strand of their receding hairline. Let it go, let it go!

Shouldn't a firmware be pushed to online devices to disable them? Think of someone who decides to blatantly board an airplane with the "hazard device" and unknowingly cause an accidental mishap; unfortunate circumstances do happen. Malaysian airlines, remember?

Well thats good that these guys decided to keep their phone because not many people will have a Note 7 so its going to be unique.
Obviously many Apple fans will criticise it.

This is what other manufacturers did to prevent battery explosion. So Samsung is late in this game.

this thing goes against consumer rights

I am one of those who has not returned my phone. I have not had any overheating or warmth to my phone since I purchased it two months ago. I have not been able to exchange my phone because the local retailer does not have any of my phone in stock...supposedly on back order. I was not happy when I woke up 30 minutes late today because my alarm never went off. When I picked up my phone it was doing an automatic update. This is the very first time my phone has ever gotten warm. I don't care that I have only 60% power, what I care about is that suddenly my phone is going to begin to overheat because Samsung has decided to automatically update my phone without my permission. I do plan to return my phone as soon as a replacement becomes available. I feel Samsung should also offer American consumers the same deal they have offered those in Korea, the oportunity to have an upgrade at 50% off when the new note phones begin coming out again.

Most of them have the phones under contract and the third parties that are carrier firms force them to awful deals so the best deal for them is to keep it.

Who will be responsible if fur... moreAt this stage I don't think Samsung could be held responsible for any further incidents. Everyone who ever owned a note 7 has been told in some form or another to return their device. If they have chosen to continue using their devices then surely they are at fault themselves for putting themselves at risk despite being given the facts. But then of course some people are just stupid and think it will never happen to them.
