BlackBerry won't be removed from WhatsApp's list of supported platforms this year

16 November 2016
If you recall, WhatsApp announced earlier this year that it will be ending support for several mobile platforms - including the BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 - by the end of the year. Well, looks like there has been a slight change in that plan.

Guys, I found a solution that seems to be working, at least for the one who originally posted it and myself:

Solution:
Remove Whatsapp from your phone.
Restart
Download Whatsapp through BB world and install
When the message appears if you would like to restore your message, please select YES!!

What I did was the following:

1. removed the SIM from the phone
2. Removed Whatsapp
3. Restarted
4. Installed Whatsapp again (it took 3 attempts because the system said, no no no, you cannot download (most likely only on my phone)
5. Inserted the SIM again
6. Answered YES to the question if the 20.000 messages should be restored from the backup

Hope this helps you keep your BB for another 6 months.

Guess what.. Blackberry user experienced sad news when they were trying to send chats. "You can't send messages to this chat because, Whatspp no longer support this phone."

Thomas, 16 Nov 2016Why S40 and S60 will not be discounted after 01.01.2017 but... moreMarc Aurel analysis seems correct, but I notice that only platforms with physical keyboard have been extended six months, not the full touch platforms.
I think that the lovers of physical keys are more reluctant to abandon their old phones, since there are no newer alternatives (apart from few horrible asian clamshells). I'm one of these.
Instead for those with already full touch there are plenty of new phones to choose.

Thomas, 16 Nov 2016Why S40 and S60 will not be discounted after 01.01.2017 but... moreNokia Symbian phones sold tens of millions back in the day and some of them must be still around. Series 40 feature phones probably sold more in 2012 alone than the total sales of WP 7 phones by all manufacturers, and millions remain in use despite discontinuation of S40 and related platforms (Asha OS) in 2014; S40 phones were still selling in 2015, because feature phones have longer life cycles.

On the other hand, most WP 7 users migrated to WP 8.1 (or W10M more recently) phones years ago. Phones like the Lumia 640 or Lumia 550 are very cheap and there is little reason to hold onto any WP 7 phone.

Well, not so bad. It gives me more opportunity to make sure that my mom feels comfort with this change. We used to love BlackBerry so bad because their far advanced security, until BlackBerry kill themselves by ended their aftersales service that refuses any service for BlackBerry users who hasn't the active warranty, nor listen our feedbacks.

A real shame with the demise of Blackberry. Pitty the geeks were so focused on games and worthless apps. In any case all we have now is Google spyware and Apple spyware so make your choice as to where is you biggest personal security risk. BB video is better than Whatsapp video by the way. We have moved away from Facebook bigbrother and whatsapp.

I think as long as there is a user base. Be it blackberry or anyone else, they should keep it going. It's not like facebook is starving for cash. Another stupid decision by the CEO, where is the loyalty to people who use it.

Even though it has been more than 4 years since Nokia pulled the plug, seems like Symbian still retained a sizeable userbase, enough to warrant a delay in Whatsapp closure. Symbian FTW!!!

Great news! Nokia will launch its 1st Android phone in Q1 or Q2 of 2017. Symbian users can use WA on their old Nokia phones till then.
