If you like go with your reviews on old egg or whatever that site you check reviews on is called. As for your statement about old drives being better, it's baseless and unfounded. I've used several drives. In fact I've used a hard drive since 2006 and I've not noticed anything different except newer drives are slimmer and faster with USB 3.0 speeds as opposed to USB 2.0 on old drives. Read and write is also greatly improved.

Not to mention your point about reviews is moot, they are reviews about months of usage, specially if you didn't need more than 30 minutes to have a failed drive, then that's no good sign as well. Reviews on Newegg are for users of 1 year or such, they come back and update their reviews, or just write them after a few months or years of usage. That IS enough to tell about reliability, specially if you see a nice 5 to 10% failures just a bit after warranty, and quite some during warranty.

Only reliable drives now are WD. Buying a Seagate is just waiting for a disaster to happen.

This is so stupid. 5TB in one single drive means if it breaks, you lose 5TB worth of data.
Considering Segate is far from reliable nowadays, only get this in double packs I guess (to have a 1:1 backup/

With every PC, i used to include a Seagate drive and it did work well till 2013. In 2013, I bought a 500GB internal Seagate HDD and within 6 months, it collapsed with all my important data. No one could recover it and i was really anxious that i did not even claimed a new Seagate as it was still in warranty and got myself a Western Digital after that.
Now after that, the WD internal is working just fine also i came to know that my Laptop from 2009 has a 320 GB WD as well which is as reliable and durable as Seagates used to be. I own two portables, one is of Sony (500GB) and one is WD (1TB) and both are running for good two years now. I dont think im gonna go for Seagate again for any drive, they have lost their credibility.

My brother for one has had a 500gb Seagate drive since 2009. That's like 7years and it's still running like a champ.
And FYI to even compare a Samsung drive to a Seagate drive is insulting. They're not in the same league/level. Your Samsung may have served you well but Seagate will better the performance by a huge mile.

No thanks, almost every Seagate drive I've had has failed after 3-5 years. Seagate is also rated the worst in reliability. Western Digital is dropping in quality too now, but a bit better than Seagate.

You can read up any review on PC parts sites, they all have a pretty bad reliability. Older drives used to last a lot longer.
Currently I have a ~5 years old Samsung laptop 320 GB one and a 1TB also laptop drive but a HGST one, these are fine (SO FAR), but none of them too new.
If manufacturers got back on track with their drives then all good all great, but as far as my experience goes, they all are pretty bad recently.

Western digital, Samsung, LG, Trascend and others are good but not up to par with Seagate. I've used a lot of drives by different manufacturers but I always come back to Seagate cus they're unrivalled

Also when my Laptop HDD crashed I changed it to Seagate in a heartbeat and it's been running great ever since
