Fly Sheikh, 23 Nov 2016While I am inclined to agree with you, there is a solution ... moreYeah, Chinese phones, but Sammy's flagships and sonys flaships and HTC ect ect are hundreds of pounds, I can get a flagships specs for less than £90, it all depends on your finance and what you want from a mobile, Cus flagships are not dirt cheap from rip off top brands fella as you know yourself!

AnonD-152638, 23 Nov 2016Not a lot of people are probably running that old android v... moreWhile I am inclined to agree with you, there is a solution that old Symbian users like myself have been using which is to create a backup of your important apps or at least have their apks stored somewhere safe so as to forestall problems when reinstalling. Google is working on fragmentation so it has to phase out old operating systems. And 2013/2014 flagships are dirt cheap right now.

Not a lot of people are probably running that old android versions on main phones.
But some do on spare phones. I have one spare phone that I like, that runs 1.6.
And some day this will affect other types of devices that came with Android, like media players and such.
Not getting automatic updates is probably not an issue, as most apps are no longer updated for those old android versions.
The issue is downloading new apps, or install apps after an re-installation of the device.
There is the possibility to side-load apps, but that is quite a bit of an hassle.
Google should keep old versions of their store, up and running.
I dont mind not getting updates Google services, as that fills the device.
But they should keep old versions of the play store open for older devices. And when they stop focusing on the apps for an old version of android, they could update the app one last time, where you get a message suggesting that the user should get a new device to get access to more apps on the main page, but still get access to all apps in the latest compatible bug-free version.
It hardly costs google that much to keep old versions of the store up and running.
Besides there could still be some sales off apps trhough it, but mostly it creates goodwill, instead of actual badwill the way they do it now.
When your spare phone (or other not oftenly used device) gets the boot from the Play store, that creates badwill, since you can no longer re-install the device. And if you need for example a timer or better alarm-clock or calender or calculator, new keyboard, or something basic like that, your device becomes useless, even if it's still functional technically.
And it's not good for the enviroment.
When a device becomes useless like that, people that only use the device like a spare, suddenly have to think of another way to keep a spare. Pehaps buying an additional device, most of the time that would not become a reason for upgrading their main device, but rather getting something basic and cheap, and additonal sales of low end devices does not really help google to keep a good reputation of their OS (at least with old devices people know that they are old, and thus perhaps limited by that, new devices should not feel as limited as many low end devies do).
It's still just a fraction of devices that run old versions like that.
So most people have already upgraded. Google does not have to try to force people to upgrade, when looking at the statistics.

As of now it's fast enough, guess I'll manually flush it's memory with some fill memory + delete or some factory reset then, didn't know about the TRIM.

The problem is not the phone.
The problem is google Play service getting bigger and bigger each year.
I'm surprised recently seeing Google Play Service app sized at 120 MB on my phone storage.
There are still lot of apps that has Android 2.3 as minimum, like Unity games for example.

Actually these update does not mean that all phone running 2.3 will no longer work. It will continue to work however you will no longer be able to download apps from play store. Furthermore, there are a lot of nightly builds out there that you can flash on your phone to have it upgrade to 4.+ or higher. XDA for example. and if you want to then there are a lot of websites out there who are compiling apps that can run on 2.3 and constantly updating though manual updates are required.

I think a basic requirement that can last for decade the way Windows XP lasted is Android KitKat 4.4. The market not only has reached a saturation point, but has already reached close to its peak in both hardware and software. This is like what desktop and laptop computers have gone through or even video game consoles.
I turned off every phone reviewer except Mr. Mobile on YouTube's recommendations. All video games too except Metal Jesus. All this stuff about tech found on YouTube is them trying to tempt us into buying more disposal products. We are money in their pockets the same way the Rothschild family control banks and love to finance wars since Napoleon.
We are all puppets to these big corporations. Even Donald Trump is simply a puppet to banks. Stick to laptops if you want a product that lasts. Both software and hardware can last between 4-6 years and removable battery isn't as important. In smartphones, removable battery is important if you want it to last beyond the typical 2-3 year/500 charge cycle expiration..
Very happy to know once my Moto battery dies in 2-3 years, I own three phones with removable battery. But also have to deal with laggier software. Laptops really are the best for portable computing. Rather love a Surface Pro or rMacBook Pro (2015) than some gimmicky smartphone that gets replaced quicker.

Six years with Gingerbread to be able to download apps is better than iOS which last three years before minimum firmware is required.

I ask because you're missing out on TRIM functionality for your storage, which was introduced in Jelly Bean 4.3. Not having that can and will make your phone worse over time.
