Mic-Headphone concept was already known before... But I still think the app has potential, if it actually reaches us.
As of now, I would say somewhat of a good (yawn...) research... or something/

As already said before, using earphones as mic is a known thing for a long time, just connect them to mic input instead of earphones input and start talking. This is not new, recorded music like that at home 20 years ago :).

so what has been known for decades is now a threat? how about the smartphones that are constantly monitored by intelligence agencies to monitor us without our consent is that a threat and or a violation of our privacy. that is just my opinion.

Nothing to brag about, but I've been using Headphones as microphones from early(poor) days of my life. And I am still doing it :P

Oh for Gods sake, this isn't a 'security flaw'. It's been so since forever. In the past we used in-ear headphones as microphones when we needed one but didn't have a mic with us. The advantage of today's audio chips is that you switch ANY port from input to output and vice versa. It's called 'a feature', fools!

Ok, so they are suggesting that not a lot of those computers have a microphone connected/built-in that would be much simpler to use for listening in on people?
Laptops tend to have microphones built in.
And a lot of people use their stationary computers for video-calls and if they have headphones connected, it's very likely that they either have a headset with microphone or have a mic in a webcamera or as a separate unit connected to the computer.

long time ago (talking about 30 yrs ago here) - i found out that if i connect the microphone to the audio out, the mike would play the sound as if it were a speaker - though with much lower level (quieter) and less clarity.
just saying...

it is not exploit, it is a hidden feature that realtek used to map the input and output pin. nothing strange here. but you can find something that no one tell, it is a called a talented reverse engineering
