LG V20 "for the US open market" can have its bootloader unlocked with official tool

This probably refers to devices sold unlocked in the US, and not through carriers.

      Yes, they mean that any US996 model purchased NOT from US Cellular should qualify for the unlock procedure. The most popular place to get this device as open unlocked is B&H Photo. I'd be careful buying from anywhere else as they could either be the US Cellular model (locked, but still called US996) or an entirely different model such as the H990DS (which oddly doesn't qualify for the unlock tool, but may in the future)

      It has TWRP already available for it, (yay me) which can be flashed through the dirtycow recowvery method or the trickier fastboot flash pull battery and get the boot key combo perfect method.

      PS. I would not be expecting much custom ROM support on this device due to the hacks needed to support the extended screen with the chunk missing, and the fancy DAC system which also requires a lot of effort to support (so you might not have any sound on your custom ROMs!)

          This is such an awesome phone. I love that I can unlock it and run a custom and highly secure, open source ROM. Also the fact that I can replace the battery and that it has the quad DAC so it plays good through my reference audio system makes me really want this phone badly. I plan on getting this phone soon, hopefully within the next couple as soon as I save up enough money!

            I can't understand why this wasn't released in Europe i would have personally bought since my s4 died hopefully it will be different with the v30 until then ill keep using my moto g4 which i findd quite satisfactory
