HP's rumored consumer-grade Windows 10 phone to be a mid-range device

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2016So you haven't used a Windows phone with the anniversary up... moreI won't debate you on first-party apps since each Google and Microsoft sure provide plenty useful apps and functionality across the OS.
As of third-party apps, as long as the apps is just apps (whether offline or cloud based), then sure, there are plenty of alternatives. But if the apps is just a tool for physical services (like transport, cleaning service, etc), I don't think looking alternative is that easy.
For example, on my country, although W10M has Uber, the motorcyle services only has less than one-third of two other services (namely GoJek and Grab who currently only serve iOS and Android users). The waiting time when searching for driver would be longer. And how about car washing service? None. The company I work for only support iOS and Android. So does many other services. Of course, if someone never need these services in the first place, then as you said, there are no pain in switching to W10M.

Not having countless (and useless) fart apps in their store is actually a good thing.
Also, since I switched from Android to Windows, I only miss a couple of apps from the Play store, but I'm sure there are alternatives to those. Plus I like my Youtube to run adless, under the lockscreen and in the bacground while using other apps.

kurotsuki, 29 Nov 2016Hahaha. You nailed it. Current lineup of W10M devices do ta... moreNo Sir, you nailed it.
As long as there's no x86 "access" on Windows, there's no real reason to abandon Android/iOS. (Or Windows should come up with some other huge advantage over the two top dogs, in which case, being able to use x86 apps would still be much desired.)
In fact, if you want to make big businesses happy, you only need compatibility up to Win7 at this moment. (Businesses that don't care for Win8/10, nor for the huge mobile game/app collections from Google and Apple)
I always hoped BB would team up with Windows, maybe using BES to run Windows apps on devices, like HP is doing now with their gig.
It wold have meant premium devices with proper keyboards, paid by your boss who loves the security and compatibility, brought by these two companies.

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2016Small businesses use whatever they can. Big businesses that... moreYou do know that the usefulness of an OS is measured by what you can do with it (I.E. which apps are on offer).
Also the Windows platform is lackluster in general. Bad backgrounding, no way for extended support (Microsoft never releases sources so you have to forget your phone when MS drops support).
So it's a fantasy that it is even nearing Android in either usefulness or usability.
I take solace that most of you guys are paid shils, because if not for that I would start wondering for the sanity of the world.
The MS mobile only produces damages (and for good reason), it only stays alive because (apparently) Microsoft has a lot of disposable assets and need a vanity project. It really *really* doesn't go anywhere, it's as doomed as Apple of mid 90s (nobody was buying them apart from way too dedicated people)

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2016Business use android and ios much more than Windows. There'... moreSmall businesses use whatever they can. Big businesses that require security, reliability and advanced features use Windows.
Plus the latest update allowed Windows 10 (for phones) to surpass Android in almost all aspects. (except the number of apps in their store)
I, too, switched from the OnePlus 2 to the Lumia 950 a couple of months ago and I'm just amazed by the user experience and the multitude of really useful features in the OS. Even the UI is better than anything else you can get with a custom launcher on Android. And it's faster in every way.
Not going back to Android unless it catches up to Windows.

- MS Visio.
- MS Access.
- Gears of War.
- Halo.

Most people using a desktop computer use Windows. Most of the same people using a smartphone use Android or iOS. Just goes to show that all need not be Windows in order to work and interoperate.

Not sure why Windows is still trying. Perhaps not to loose the infrastructure around making phones and have to start from scratch if suddenly an opening should show up. Like a pilot light. Anyway, Microsoft can afford it even if its a pit.

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2016Business use android and ios much more than Windows. There'... moreHahaha. You nailed it. Current lineup of W10M devices do targeting on business (although Myerson deny it, the obvious fact isn't lying). But on the same time, Android (and iOS), DO already used on business by a lot of business people. So, as long as W10M still cannot run legacy apps (compiled for x86), I don't think they have any appeal to majority of business which still dependent to legacy apps. Continuum without x86 execution set is not that enticing.
One thing that can be a selling point, if you want to make them a handheld/console combo like Nintendo Switch. But then again, the SoC is already beaten by NS unless they use Tegra based SoC. Though, both (W10M and NS) might face similar issue.... minimum selection of game titles.... :3

Snapdragon 600? On the home page it says 800. Anyway, that 600 goes a long way in performance. Look at the Redmi Note 3.
