All collectable items lost its value once the seal of the box is removed. A used phone? That drop down the price even lower. If you appraised it with the entire box content that would be nice but just the phone itself wont do you any justice for money. Conclusion, you better of exchanging this device with an s7edge, then you can sell that for much more better value.

In the future these will be collector's items and will command ridiculous prices.

It's not even the same category of phones. One is a "pro" phone (pen et al), the other is an elongated iPhone. I still don't see who those two share customers.

I.E. the type of guy who wants or needs an iPhone would never consider a Note and the other way around ... those two phones are very different in almost everything. I never understood who "instead of Note" bought an iPhone.

(Btw the phone closest to Note 7 is the S7 edge, almost equally big screen sans pen).

The 10% left is people who will never return it because they have beat the system by rooting the phone and putting a custom rom on it. There is nothing Samsung a do about that. You can't force people to return something they don't want to.

Eske Rahn, 12 Dec 2016The same could be said about a gun that 'everyone' can buy.... moreI did some research on this topic. Firstly, you do not own your phone's software. You only have a license to use it and in that license there is certainly an entry that lets the manufacturer modify that software or revoke the software license agreement.

Another point is that by bricking the Notes Samsung does not destroy the hardware. It remains completely intact and unmodified. However, by making the phone completely unusable they significantly decreased its value, so they could be brought to court for compensation if they hadn't offered the refund/replacement.

So, what they did is perfectly legal because the users agreed to the terms and conditions.
