LG to announce six new mid-range smartphones at CES, X power 2 at MWC

13 December 2016
The next few weeks will be very busy for Korea's second largest mobile device maker, it seems.

Lower end LG phones have many issues so it is best to go for the top-end phones. Even their 3rd party flip case partner Voia supplies substandard, inferior quality cases that will irk the buyer of a new LG mobile phone especially in the Philippines where the customer is accused of damaging the flip case or even exchanging it for a fake one in order to return to the store to get an original case that is poorly manufactured anyway.

Voll, 15 Dec 2016But the real question is: will it bootloop after a year?LG phones (especially mid-range and lower-end ones) seldom has such issues. Even the G5 and V20 have improved this compared to the G4 and V10, so I think this would not be a problem...

I think the minimum acceptable specs should be like this:
        K3: S410, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB ROM
        K4: S435, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB ROM
        K8: S435, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM
        K10: S435 (but better to have an S650+), 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM
G Stylus 3: S653 (it would be good to see former S8XXs), 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM
        X Power 2: S435, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM

But I understand, LG really seldom makes good mid-rangers. There're only few exceptions like the L9, L9 ii, L90, and some stylus models...

Still, hope LG could do a good job this time~

mr. ry, 14 Dec 2016X calibur??? sounds like a flagship device.....No. It just a rugged midranger.

RAM and SoC choice have always been poor from LG in the past so fingers crossed! Tried of Tier 1 manufacturer's sticking with SD4xx series though

Hard to get excited about these phones. I have never seen a budget LG phone that was interesting. Either too expansive for what you get, specs are too pathetic or battery life is poor. Or all three. China makes the best budget phones. I have recently been trying the Xiaomi Redmi 3S at only $137 with a 4100 mAh battery and SD 430 = which has surprised me for how adequately speedy it is for everyday tasks. Hard to beat at this price. The Redmi 3S also has a global version with multiple LTE bands as opposed to the usual Chinese phone that only has bands 1, 3 and 7. So, it should work on LTE on some US carriers as well. It was hard to find though as most of the usual online Chinese retailers I check out were out of stock.

Mid range should pack 1080p displays nowadays

Totally agree, you have to go off the beaten path for it. A friend of mine uses a 'lumigon T3', it is a 4.8" with some pretty tasty kit internally. Helps that it is absolutely gorgeous as well, maybe worth a look for you?

Why can't all the K variants come with similar front and rear cameras? Why is it that only the bigger screen phones get the best cameras? I prefer smaller phones (< 5 inches) but they don't come with high end hardware, which is so frustrating.

LG K10 2017 with 2GB ram and a snapdragon 625 and its so bought. K10 owner, its starting to hit speed bumps, but I love the phone's design and handling, an updayed body with glass all around and a better chipset warrants an upgrade.

Actually, X series are good thing. But sadly, LG couldn't handle it well. I wish it will get better. X Power is the most interesting for me.
