This is actually a rehash of an old LG technology which one of my tv's uses. It was Full LED local dimming. Basically this TV was rated one of the only ones that managed to produce pure black. It has similar clusters like the Sony. It however has a scanning backlight which allows frame interpolation to look really nice for increased hz. It was expensive and it was so thin they had to use glass to hold it and it was super heavy. It had some issues just like the Sony one. And that's going to be bleedthrough. Look at a space scene and you will see that because it uses clusters the stars have extra light around them and then it gets really black after the cluster ends. On OLED it looks 3d it's so perfect.
The biggest problem with why a lot of companies have been postponing OLED is because of the backlogs for manufacturing. The machines used to make them are custom made, and it takes forever to make them. And they are insanely expensive. A lot of companies are trying to improve the existing technologies not to sink all that money and wait for a better time. But 2017 even Sony is apparently going OLED.

However, most critics agreed that Sony's HDR is much better than lg's oled. The only thing lg beats Sony is the absolute black. I like how Sony closes the gap with oled by introducing this technology to lcd, so I praised Sony. This is what I called a beast, quality company.

Anonymous , 19 Dec 2016According to customers who do testing side by side.Customers don't know how to do professional testing/calibration or anything. Oled calibration is required too because each set is so different it can't be calibrated at the factory. Anyone who knows picture quality knows lg oled is the top. I follow TV's a lot and my bro may get the LG for boxing day. I have researched every best site and LG gets best picture quality. Sony has a good rating but not lg quality. It sits next with Vizio p-series.

Amoled are notorious for its unaccurate color back 5-7 years ago. Samsung really step up its game with the S7edge. Of course LCD has always been praised as the most color accurate display but never achieve an infinite contrast level of an amoled. The closest LCD gets to an infinite contrast like amoled panel is the IPS-Neo LCD type panel which is the highest scoring in contrast level for an LCD but not infinite though.

In theory, a perfect display according to mathematical logic is that a display that have DeltaE 0.0, contrast level of infinite, white brightness level of over 1000+ nits, black(dim) level of 0 nits(absolute black-turn off screen), & sunlight contrast ratio of 5 (Nokia 808 Pureview score the highest for a smartphone with 4.698). Of course, this is just a theory of a 'perfect' phone display. No one ever archieve such specs. Its simply impossible with our technology today.

krystian, 19 Dec 2016That's not true the Note 5 was more accurate. Note 5 Basic Mode gives deviation of DeltaE 1.1. S7 edge can gives DeltaE 0.8 on Basic Mode which is even more color accurate.
