The reason why they do this is because they make a new better music store download thing with better quality in the songs. Maby they put CD quality in there because now the OVI had mp3 quality.

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2011on how many countries? This is probably a guess but it was free to the US first since android was originally released to the US initially. Quickly android gave free navigation to 1.6+ devices to the rest of the countries that sold Android devices.

If you do abit of research instead of believing what you read/hear you would know that Nokia are scrapping Ovi Music Unlimitted, because it's not DRM free. Non 'DRM-FREE' is for Ovi Music Unlimited and NOT for general Single or Album purchases. Nokia DO offer DRM-FREE tracks for purchasing singles and albums, and NOT for their Unlimited music offering which makes sence for copyright issues.
SO...
they do offer the same as iTunes, (which is way more better) but you cannot buy Videos or TV programmes with Nokia which sucks.

first article about free Nokia OVI maps for most of their smart phones(excluding E71, i was pissed because at the time I was using an E71-2). Dated 01/21/2010
Announcement of Google maps Navigation beta being free for Android 2.0 devices
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/announcing-google-maps-navigation-for.html
dated October 29th, 2009. A couple weeks later it was announced 1.6 Devices would be able to use this free service, which still remains free today.
Anything else to add? You sure did your research huh? Thank you come again.

Fan Of Phones, 19 Jan 2011Before you go into your rants on GSMARENA i suggest you do ... moreFor someone who "did" their research you sure didn't look into things did you? Google introduced paid turn by turn navigation through tel nav for non android devices in 2009. The device you mention the 6110, was designed as a GPS device, hence the free navigation. However Nokia did not give free turn by turn navigation FOR ALL THEIR PHONES until later 2009, after Google released beta of Navigation for ANY android devices 1.6 and up. So please, this isn't a rant it is merely a fact to correct someone's misinformation.

I'm sorry to say this, but, if Nokia can't figure it out for music, how the heck are they going to do it for Video?
Ovi Unlimited is a completely out of touch service - I guess they'll continue it a bit longer in 6 countries, taking advantage of an uninformed population. I mean, really, I don't know how to sugar coat this.
**** If, in 2011, you are using Ovi Ulimited to download **** DRM Locked Music ****, you are a MORON!!!! ****
All music on iTunes, AMazon, etc is DRM free - i.e. convenient for the users to move at will to their devices (PC, tablet, phone, iPod, etc). An Nokia thinks they can inflict DRM-locked music via Ovi Unlimited on people of India and Brazil?
What happens when they found out they've been had? What happens when their iFriends and AndroidFriends show them that Nokia took advantage of their Moronic IQ?
Apple: $9.8B cash flow in one quarter - 67% of users have incomes over $100K.
Nokia: Selling cheap-o-matic phones with DRM-locked music services to morons in third world countries.
That is the headline.

Fan Of Phones, 19 Jan 2011Before you go into your rants on GSMARENA i suggest you do ... morei am using google and ovi maps on the same phone. and google is better, it is much faster to zoom in and out. searching is usually better, more reliable and location based. it has street view. voi e control works. when google has problems, then i switch to ovi. best thing about ovi is the ttaditional sat nav view with streets cramped over the horizon. i give google 95% and ovi 80%

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2011Obviously you know nothing outside of your small Nokia box.... moreBefore you go into your rants on GSMARENA i suggest you do abit of research.
Nokia Navigation was introduced as a free Maps service in 2006, the first device it was the Nokia 6110 Navigator with used Route 66 maps and they came built-in. After a few other devices they introduced Ovi Maps which was free for ALL S60 devices with intergrated GPS in 2009. Then with other updates, ALL devices have Ovi Maps.
ANDROID launched free turn-by-turn Navigation through TeleNav as a 30DAY TRIAL in feb 2009 then charged $9.99 per month. This mapping was regional only, so if i wanted to download Maps of other countries i would have to pay. Then rolled it out to other Andriod 2.0 devices in October 2009..( please see this news post by GSMARENA http://www.gsmarena.com/google_maps_for_mobile_anounce_navigation_beta_for_android_20-news-1216.php )
SO...
Google did NOT introduce Free-turn-by-turn Navigation first. Nokia Did!!
I have both a HTC Desire HD & Nokia N8 (with Nokia's new Ovi Maps 3.06 Beta (free download from Nokia Beta Labs). Both Mapping solutions are very good. But using 'Online' Maps with Ovi Maps for traffic update info is way better.
So please do your research and stop being so biast against other brand.

Well they remove that service from areas where it is not really used and that will be replaced with new service that actually might do better. Media actually makes good news to be bad news if ask me.
