Microsoft has sold twice as many Surface Studio PCs as expected

28 December 2016
Obviously though, given how expensive it is, the actual sales numbers aren't in the millions, or even hundreds of thousands.

If I will go for desktops I am not a fan of the all in ones because the hardware becomes easily obsolete. This is the reason why I love the mac OS but I will never buy a Mac due to its limiting hardware. I cannot upgrade my Mac with a GTX 1080TI GPU . This will also be my verdic to this all in one by Microsoft. I would rather customize my hardware and get my Money's worth!! The 980M is obsolete, There is the 1080M in the market now How I wish this all in one PC is upgradable..

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2016"The Surface Studio is Microsoft's response to Apple's iMac... moreThe mac has lived off the creativity buzz for a while. A lot of the software that made it great has become even better on pc's. And MS is trying to make it known that PC's can do the same thing if not better.

So it would be both a creative workstation and general computer.

I've seen it in action it's a marvelous thing. It really makes the imac look bad. And the integrated surface dial support with sketchable app is insane. Adobe's apps don't have as much configuration for the dial but my guess is the UWP api provides more than the win32 one. Adobe is working on UWP versions of their apps but who knows how long it will take.

"The Surface Studio is Microsoft's response to Apple's iMacs, "

No it isn't. It's a different category altogether - home all round PC vs professional creative workstation.

If you're not going to even look at its key features, why bother write in a tech website?

Well, they took a step into the right direction. Definitely good way to compete with Mac's, that are kinda boring, refreshed ideas of the same workstation each year. Nice to see MS doing something well after all those missed ideas throughout the years.

Surface Studio should have a wider base [that cpu box]
Table Mode will also be an excellent idea [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRU3NemA95k]

That's a pretty good start from Microsoft! Now they need to advertise it more in some countries and hopefully the sales gonna be consistent throughout the year.. and hoping for lower price...

Is it actual sell through (the PC reaching the hand of enduser), or is it simply channel stuffing (sales going to distributors/partner resellers)?
On the other hand, it won'r be surprising to see huge sale numbers from the start (ie. contracts from designer houses purchasing tons of units in advance). It will be interesting if MS can show consistent sales throughout the year.
