Resolution only doubles for each FOUR TIMES increase in pixel count. To double the resolution of a 2MP sensor requires EIGHT megapixel. To double the resolution of an 8 megapixel sensor requires 32 megapixel.
Look at your screen and imagine a cross through its centre extending to its edges. Each segment has not a 1/4, but HALF that of the entire screen.

            xXoXx, 06 Jan 2017i think GSMArena are wrong, 8K is 4 times thge 2K and 16 ti... more4k is 4x 1080p.

            some basic math:

            1080p: 1920x1080 = 2073600 pixels (around 2 mil)
            4k: 3840x2160 = 8294400 pixels (around 8 mil, which is exactly 4x1080p)

            Very similarly 8k is 4x 4k

                    1920 x 1080 = 2.073.600 pixels
                    3840 x 2160 = 8.294.400 pixels (4 times more than 1080p)
                    7680 x 4320 = 33.177.600 pixels (4 times more than 4K) (16 times more than 1080p)

Why smartphones screens are so cheap, why PC's screens are so expensive?

Of course kids will say that its perfect for gaming...
But actually no, there where lost of test that show best resolution for 15-21" screen is FHD, for 21-26" is 2k, for 26-32" and for bigger screens... well after that you better buy TV, and because its big TV, sitting closer that 1.5m from it is stpd... so you will not even see that resolution.

Such screen is more for graphic/video work, but from my own experience I can say that its still better to buy two 2k monitors... its just WAY more comfortable. Where you have in one screen actual work space and other monitor is for tools/previews other apps.

                                Here is how it works
                                4K is about 3840x2160p = 8,3 megapixels
8K is 33 megapixels as of this news so it's actually 4 times than 4K display

Look on the bright side guys. At least this will mean lower prices for 4K monitors since they're not the flagship resolution anymore.

Its an actual resolution shown and displayed before, on last year CES and covered by most tech websites, regarding this monitor. Keep in mind, it takes 8K resolution to get 280ppi, where on a smartphone you got nearly 3 times more that with a 4K display.
