The Pixels' Google Assistant is getting keyboard input soon

06 January 2017
You will finally be able to write your queries for it too, and not just speak them.

Not true. I've been able to type into my Assistant on my Pixel XL since the day I got it. (And I pre-ordered it the day they were available.) It uses voice or text. It replies by whichever method you used to input (voice/text). It isn't "getting" a keyboard, it has always had one.

Why are they even trying when we have Cortana, the best assistant ever?

This just means that they are delaying to improve the work on the Assistant, simple as that. A fully loaded AI should very rarely need "keyboard input", the thing is not ready yet anyway, probably in a decade or something. Till then watch Iron Man.

And what even is the point of an assistant if you have to type in your query anyway? Just improve the voice recognition even further and go completely hands free if you want to use the feature. That's what an assistant is for right? Might as well fire it and do the job yourself.

2017 and i still believe that the personal assistant thing is a joke and useless

for me its faster to open google and search for something or manual set an alarm rather than having to speak in a heard voice and finding a quite environment to do it
