YouTube for iOS adds higher resolution options for small screen iPhones

But now they have disabled it for some unknown reason and also newly uploaded 4K videos are only displayed maximum to 1080p on iPhone SE.

    Look at these lower resolution screen owners fighting for their phones to render a native 2K resolution video. Lol

      Shadow Snypa786, 12 Jan 2017WTH is the point of having 1440p resolution on devices than... moreBecause youtube compression loses so much detail that even raw 1080p can look better than youtube 4K. Plus downsampling doesn't hurt the image and you don't have to select 1440p.

        On the iPhone SE the maximum display resolution for YT videos is 1440p, not 1080p.

          WTH is the point of having 1440p resolution on devices than only support 1080p?

          It just take longer for the video to buffer and you wont seen much difference

              I have 5.5 inch FHD IPS display phone and watching YouTube video at FHD and HD res its still same quality on my eyes. So even I have a IPhone 6 Plus (FHD IPS display), watching HD videos isnt problem, its will be make data savings than FHD video streamings.

                          4.7inch iphones have 750p screens not 1080p. Even the iPhone 7 only has 750p screens but now can play 1440p videos on youtube lol

                                Obviously the 'output' resolution won't be that high (high is relative here obviously again), but still it will look better.

                                  It's like putting 4k sticker on your old tv, it only makes you feel better nothing else. HD screen can't display 4k content in 4k simple.

                                      AnonD-428442, 11 Jan 2017I can set youtube to play 4K video on my Windows 10 laptop ... moreThe difference is a windows 10 Laptop can use external monitors/TVs so selecting any screen resolution available makes sense, at least from a programming point of view as it allows for the user to choice the output resolution.

                                      I dont see why this is needed on a Phone.
