I have been repairing electronics for over 20 years. The cellular repair/refurbish industry is BOOMING. If you cannot find a place that will change your battery for a reasonable price when your "flagship" battery has failed then you sir are a fail. In addition ALL LITHIUM ION BATTERIES SWELL. It is a normal part of their failure, or misuse. For the record I see more Apple batteries swell up than any other removable or non removable battery from any manufacturer.

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2017But people who cannot see the the advantages of removable b... more99 percent of all phones are exactly like ones with removable batteries, the battery is the same shape minus the plastic shell inside, the area that it sits in is exactly the same as ones with removable backs dedicated to the battery, only on a few HTC models have I seen where the battery has components going over it, and a few random models where there may be a flex cable traveling under the battery but this is still done on ones with removable ones. Simple put the ONLY reason the battery is removable is because if you take 100 percent care of your phone, never drop, never wet, treat it like a baby, the battery will fail. And the manufacturers know this means its time for a new phone if the average person can not replace it. Profit is a big point, other advantages for manufacturers are that they can incorporate some things into the back covers, ie flash camera lens antennas, and not have to have contact points or other things that cant be accessible to a person. (loosing the back and the antennas at the same time is bad). It also allows them to design a thinner phone as these things can be put together not having to allow for user space where fingers can reach. From the users perspective there isn't an advantage to not having a removable battery aesthetics aside.

When non-removable, the shape needs to be very specific in order to fit between all the parts inside. When removable, there is more space for it and no special requirements regarding shape.
Besides, non-removability still remains a problem due to swelling (Especially in Samsung phones). So, either way, people paying so much for a phone with a non-removable battery (Especially from Samsung) are...well, just not too bright.

Where is flagship smartphone with removable battery anymore these days. I doubt Nokia have removable battery either. So, what kind of smartphone you using currently, huh? You telling me to buy midrange or low budget phone(which is the only segments still using non removable battery). You telling me to abandon flagship phone? I rather be slave to these companies creative smartphones and keep trying on new things instead of being superficially against changes like some sort of old age revolution. From the leaked cases, the S8 might not lose the 3.5mm headphone jack after all. Considering LG might go non-removable with the G6, the S8 might be my next phone. I just wished Samsung offered the North American market the Exynos models. Qualcomm has been outplayed by other chip manufacturers for the last two years.
The biggest sell for me is for the smaller size. Samsung will remove the edge moniker and the S8 will only be 140mm tall! That's shorter than two of my phones with a 5" display. I kinda hoped for UHD to future proof for VR, but we can't have it all. Imagine the S8 has a 5.7" display and is nearly two centimeters shorter than the iPhone 7 Plus and LG V20? The most compact big screen phone ever.
Samsung will go back to RGB instead of PenTile. I also don't mind micro-USB since I don't want to adopt USB-C and the dongles required just yet. S8 is the phone to get for the small size for a 5.7" display while keeping the headphone jack and sticking to micro-USB without the hassle of dongles right now. By Note8, Samsung will make it bigger, go USB-C like its predecessor, and remove the headphone jack completely.

Doesn't make sense. If the only reason was that the battery was just a tiny bit too large then why not replace it with one thats that tiny bit smaller instead of recalling the entire phone. It would be no different than an ordinary battery replacement.
