Besides don't forget that its harder to update Samsung since many new features in Nougat (multitasking) has already been there in Samsung since S3, and hence requires incorporating with the existing framework....

This is why I am buying a pure Google phone next time. I will move over to the Pixel 2 as soon as it comes out. I am sick of spending $800. plus on phone that doesn't get updated. Its a scam. Google is doing the right thing stop fragmentation and just build your down damn phone

AnonD-491921, 17 Jan 2017So does googlethere is a good explanation. Apple has their own software and hardware platfrom, limited number of devices. Samsung uses their own hardware and their version of Google software. Meaning, when Google releases their version, all the "Samsung features" must be developed/added to the new version, it must be optimized for the different hardware they have and tested - resulting in longer update schedual than the OEMs like Apple and Google. Tho I must accept, that the speed should be considerably faster, since this should be Googles and Samsungs interest, to get updates out ASAP after release.

Samsung is not so consistent with updates. For example, my A3 2016 model got last security update on 1 August 2016. It has been a long time. Tsk tsk tsk.

I am fine with waiting as long as they deliver a clean update with as less bugs as possible.

Samsung may not be the fastest to update, but they are generally consistent with their 18 to 24 month guaranteed updates for it's flagships. That's why S3 which went from 4.0 ICS all the way to 4.3 JB and that's why S5 which started from 4.4 KK is updated to 6.0.1 MM and still gets regular security updates.

Android its like this.devolped by Google and it's modified from the others. This takes a lot of time always. It's not like ios. And it will be always like that. Software updates from Samsung was always nightmare.
