You see people lining outside apple store just because there is a new iphone coming out. 90% of them are so stupid i can't even bother to comment. They just buy it because its the new iphone, they don't even know what's new and what's not. So when you mentioning sales, mention marketing and brainwashing campaigns as well, that's why samsung and apple sell well.
Ask around, apple knows that their users are brainless so they don't need to evolve that much gen after gen. Samsung believed that they are so awesome they released a phone untested it started exploding.
And yet people still believe in them! it's hilarious..!

If you make it here you can make it anywhere sans Chinese phones which will get hit with massive amount of patent infringement cases.

They have, we should say, distanced themselves from America to focus more on Asia and Europe. And yeah i totally agree with you, in America, both Apple & Samsung are durable, trustworthy, accessible, affordable, premium (to some extent in Sammy's case) and definitely known by the masses, no denying in that. If Sony Mobile wants to enter there, believe me they can. They just have a really bad marketing department and budget for it. I have never seen them market their Xperias properly even in the markets they are in right now. Only a single ad for a flagship for a whole season. This is their advertisement thats it.

XZ's profits are yet to be seen this year as XZ has been declared the surprise hit of 2016 (Apteligent's Report) after Note7's demise, Sony had the maximum advantage after iPhone 7.
        FYI, just to make you feel better, Sony Mobile is still doing far better than 'known' OEMs like LG & htc.

Total Sony mobile sales around 20 million last year which is not even half of S7/S7E's annual sales and iPhone's quarterly sales figures. That's the reality.

If Sony really can't release a defining product and can't improve its sales performance then that bubble will burst and it will be a pity a brand like Sony become non-existent after few years. Another Nokia and Blackberry in the making.

Sony Mobile was in losses until 2016, where XZ saved Sony a little. Sony managed to make around 10 billion dollar in whole year. Which is far less than what Apple made. And Samsung got 21% market share in smartphone category. The point here is Sony needs far better sales in 2017 than XZ managed, to survive. Sony can't simply run into profits by just saying Xperias should be purchased by hardcore Sony fans only....
