Anonymous, 18 Jan 2017While you are right in the sense that brexit has caused the... moreyou are missing taxes. iPhone 7 32GB is $649, this includes no sales tax and will be added depending on your state. In the UK the iPhone 7 32GB is £599, this includes sales tax of 20%. So, take the tax off, that leaves £479.20. At todays exchange rate that would be roughly $590. So are we actually getting ripped off?

Unless you have bank account in the US.

Some seems to be resilient to facts...

And you are absolutely right on the development of then rates, see e.g. the link I previously posted.

But it would be nice if we had a somewhat similar graph comparing the app prices in GBP relative to USD over the same period.

British people (Indians and Turkish too), I think you can use a VPN service to download a US version of Play Store and get your apps at lower prices. At least that was what some guy was proposing to get Pokemon GO, it may work for you!!

ollyb1, 17 Jan 2017it's still cheaper to buy a app from the US app store than ... moretalking nonsense. How hard is it to understand the basic principle. Cost of Apps has not gone up in US, which is the home market. Yes you used to pay 59p for apps, it has gone up overtime with the depreciation of the pound. A basic app is still 99 cents, regardless. As the exchange rate has changed, the pricing has changed. Yes the apps went up from 59p well before brexit, because believe it or not, the currency has fluctuated in the past before brexit, its just that since brexit the £ has dropped about 20% against the $. Once you factor in taxes, 99p is probably right based on the current exchange rate

The currency depreciated by 20% so prices went up by 25%. It's basic math. It has nothing to do with greed. Their prices are the same. It is just that your currency is worth less so you have to pay more. On what basis do you dispute that?

A decent mind knows that owning a Apple cost more money.

Say what you like but when a company makes a massive profit and then decides to hike up the apps by 25% then there is only one company we can look toward to rip us off.....CR-A*PLE

But Apple and Google control the price in any other country in relation to dollars by looking at the exchange rate. If Apple or Google is going to increase the price of stuff in the UK, that doesn't change the price anywhere else and is only due to the exchange rate. You can look at the exchange rate and you'd see that the currency has declined, thanks to brexit.

AnonD-442781, 17 Jan 2017Of course it is to do with brexit.
