Sure it would consume a bit more power while displaying a very bright, white image but in most real life situations it uses much less energy.
Also as a display technology it's superior to LCD in almost every major aspect.
About the i9003 I think that it's a very not nice aspect - cutting the superior GPU and S-Amoled panel makes it mediocre. If the price is right (lower-mid end) it would be good but I doubt that.

The same thing what HTC has done with Desire. From Amoled to S-LCD.
Now Samsung has just rename the i9000 to i9003

Check out the screen size looks like SL is both higher and lower in area thsn GS,but same as 2x

Its pretty simple.. As samsung committing its OLED plant for Samsung Galaxy S2.. The previous Generation will have to resort to another screen. Samsung wouldn't want SGS to juz die instantly when SGS2 is out, so they come out with the same type of product but with another screen.

I think that Sammy is running out of SuperAMOLED screens...to bad for the Galaxy S...it was the perfct android because of the SuperAmoled...but,at least you get 2.2 out of the box...

Marketing strategies from Android smartphone's brands:
Smartphones running by a great software = Poor camera
Smartphones running by a great camera = Poor software
Ex:
Samsung I9003 Galaxy SL =>
Great software = Poor camera
Motorola XT720 Milestone =>
Great camera = Poor software (will not receive Froyo)
Please, check this: Look for an Android 2.2 Froyo at least with a great camera + flash xenon ... does not exist.
Smartphones' developers are forgetting to provide better cameras + flash to last devices.
This Samsung hasn't LED flash (Xenon would be a terrible work to Samsung's developers), so if you want to take a picture in dark conditions, better bring you a lamp from your home.

This is Obviously not the new Galaxy S, and another way of continuing the current mobile lineup with a cheaper price tag. I just think that the Galaxy S2, Would be indeed revelead on the 14th of February. if this is replacing the current Galaxy S, then samsung has some catching upto do with Nokia's N9 (1.2 ghz CPU, meego) and LG's Optimus 2, and ofcourse Sony Ericsson's lineup..

I think this release is just a way to lower the price of Galaxy S (1) and keep it on the market, while the S2 will be just for the high end consumers.

Samsung might as well put the OS on the ROM, they will not upgrade it anyway. Have they fix the GPS issue or are they still giving the customer the run around?

It's a marketing way of still selling that many phones and not have to worry about shortage of materials. Don't forget Samsung is still the highest selling chip and Screen manufacturer in the world and they have to meet the demand from not just themselves but other manufacturers as well.
