When compared to A10 Fusion, the multi core is good, but the more important single core is underwhelming.if Qualcomm and Mediatek still doesn't care about single core score rather than these unimportant "Octavio-core" adverts, and if the Android world still doesn't want to adopt UFS 2.1 or NVMe, they won't also be this year able to beat iPhone 7 and it will again be the fastest phone all the way through it's life cycle

AnonD-528139, 22 Jan 2017the question remains, do we need 8 cores?. whatever good c... moreIf you are talking about only android devices then I got to admit that a quad core soc at 3Ghz is more than sufficient.

Besides, Microsoft is partnering with Qualcomm to bring native desktop apps to mobile arm based devices.
That's the reason why SD835 is an octa core flagship soc, as full blown desktop apps can efficiently utilise multi core CPU while having more cores gives those apps more headroom for compute performance while combining those cores with efficient 10nm FinFET fab process helps to achieve more battery life.
So, small notebooks can use Snapdragon SOC instead of Intel or AMD for cost saving.

Having all that power on a mobile device is mostly an overkill tbh. Android is more resource efficient than windows or its apps(only considering pure android). But, it is as they say, 'more the merrier'....

whatever good comes from having 8 cores is an impacted battery life.

I see 3.2GHZ dual or quad core to be the perfect frequency and architecture.
