21 January 2017
The hefty device also packs quite a punch, with a Snapdragon 835 chipset and QHD resolution.

This might be 8.4 like other manufacturer unit..

Tey to type for 30 minutes non stop and then try to speak 30 minutes non stop. Only will give you carpal tunel syndrome down the stretch the other would instantly kill your voice for the next day or two. Vocal chords are simply not made for as heavy use as fingers/hands.

So -yeah- given the choice people would still type. Dictation is good for quick things and maybe where typing is impossible (say wearables) but not for long posts, even if perfect voice recognition was possible. So yeah it was mostly a step backwards.

To say that something new would not be a step backwards (like dictation is/was) that's a big iF. We're evolved to use our hands better than any other part of the human body, so unless we're talking for some direct brain interfacing I don't see typing go away. And given how fuzzy brain signals are we may not see something replacing typing for centuries even...

Snapdragon here, Snapdragon there, Snapdragon everywhere. It would appear that Snapdragon needs some serious competition - and in particular in light of Qualcomms anti competitive practices.

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2017Naah, typing is less tiring than dictating in the long run.... moreSame way how writing is becoming obsolete. More and more people into typing. Just imagine what kind of input device we use in the future. Writing is tiring so we type. Typing is also tiring. So we dictate with voice. Talking is tiring then, we eventually evolved to telephatic computer input. Isnt it amazing.

Other sites report that it is the very awaited - ultimate flagship Nokia of 2017, marking the Return of the King on the mobile industry

The 18.4 screen size is actually a (usual) mistake made from the benchmark websites working on non-final products

The idea is how do you type with it? You need to develop some new style of keyboard like console devices mess around with. That would be pretty interesting.

There is some research in the department of reading electrical activity from brain and translating thoughts into actions. This is mostly happening in the world of prosthetic devices but one day it could be small enough to have a little device strapped to your ear with the right sensors. Then that becomes pretty invasive though.

Panasonic made a 20 inch tablet and Dell an 18.4 inch one, but these are rich companies who can afford to test what customers want with unusual products (remember the first Galaxy Note ? )

how about display? LCD or amoled?

they showed why they fail often in this tablet market again...who will buy this tablet? max 20k units maybe....focus on 7 inch tablets

I hope they will also bring hi-ends in 7 and 12inch category. Its too boring in tablet world, microsoft and apple are doing great, but prices are higher than those with android.

Dictation can and will co-exist with typing but as long as we use letters to communicate typing is here to stay. Emojis did replace part of it (as well as dictation in the future), but I doubt that typing will go away. It's one of those staples that stay for centuries and millennia.

I think it's actually their flagship smartphone. Remember that some two months back there was the Nokia D1C listing on gfxbench with 10'' display with snapdragon 430 and it comes as Nokia 6. Likewise this could be 5" or 5.5" incher with snapdragon 835!
