Microsoft: Sales of Hololens are in the thousands

Hololens is one of the things I'm most excited about. VR is cool and all, great for gaming (eventually), but AR has incredible possibility. I work in 3d modeling and design work, along with manufacturing. Being able to visualize products in-world instead of just on a solidworks screen would help immensely.
To me Hololens is simply a proof of concept. The technology exists. Scale and processing power are the new things to focus on. Integration into prescription glasses would be incredible. MS doesn't need to sell a million of these units. They need to sell enough to convince the public that AR is a useful technology.

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2017When will chinese produce a cheaper HoloLens version?After the Hololens itself becomes commercially available. The tech is too expensive at the moment. Its not as simple as VR by putting lenses in a box.

To all the ''smart people'' who comment here, the HoloLens is an AR (augmented reality) device, not a VR (virtual reality) device, and it's currently kicking ass. Get your facts right.

Hololens cannot be considered as Virtual Reality. It is of different kind. Microsoft call it as MIXED REALITY because you can interact with the elements in the virtual landscape.
Hololens has a great potential in the future! I hope that in 2 or 3 years time, the price will become lower.
