flaw, 30 Jan 2017same as razer cortex?Completely different to Cortex and all previous version of 'game optimisation' software.
This being made by the people who supply the operating system has the potential for some seriously tasty changes.
    The truth is, why now?

Get this.. this same GAME MODE is going to be baked into XBONEs and will improve Forza and other titles on the console.
This is just showing how lazy and carefree M$ has been all these years when it comes to delivering performance.
Now they are seeing this as a way to get more interest in Win10/more quotable 'install base' of users, and probably some nice stats with regards to how many contact hours we xbox (app/console) use.

Downloading and installing a 50Gb Forza horizon (can't buy physical for PC) adds a lot of 'contact time'.

Forza on PC is a mess and is just a bullet point for the concept of Universal Gaming Platform/ecosystem.

M$ want to sell console games.
They are doing everything they can to kill PC gaming, and have done so for greater than a decade. (I loved losing hardware audio with Vista, but I won't hold the death of Aureal3D and other sound tech we had in the late ninties against M$.. but now that they need to quote numbers/statistics to make their Xbone sound like a viable platform (include PC/Phone sales and usage numbers); in order to convince developers to code for DirectX12 (need to show a worthwhile sized audience to recoup profits from effort invested).

I am sad to see the way gaming went.
Having cut my teeth on Atari and Commodore, and survived 3D0 and Lynx, enjoyed NeoGeos and SuperGraphx, dug Sony joining the scene with their playstation, saddened by the loss of Sega... I still held out hope for gaming, in digital formats, growth'.

On principle I won't buy anything Microsoft (or Nvidia) again.
As consumers we have to vote with our wallets or values and ethics will lose out just so we can race to medicrity with copycat devices at cheaper prices.

More and more we lose premium parts that the masses can afford when we force them to niche runs for a select few.

We don't want $200 smart phones. Not all of us.
Some of us want nice devices that are well built and reliable.
This stops happening when we compete on price.

Windows 10 was free just to bolster a stupid move M$ made with their new super console.
They cheaper out on a video chip that performed 20% slower at 20% less pixels. They dropped kinect (gained 10% cpu),and eventually released a slightly upspecced console. - to give us HDR (! Riiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhtttttttttt !)

I look forward to a market that is not coding for direct x 12
Open source alternatives if that is what it takes... if gaming on PCs could render on linux and apple OS (and not M$ proprietary methods that limit to their ecosystem, and ethics,.. come on it took until Direct X 12 to go 'low level' with the language.
    I assumed thats what Direct X version 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc were doing....

Microsoft only care for their shareholders. They make this statement publicly quite regularly.
Don't be a M$ consumer. It will cost too much ultimately and you will lose your happiness in the meantime.

For UWP (universal windows platform aka windows store) software this has an opportunity to assist most (these titles run effectively in fullscreen mode as a borderless window) and seldom achieve high performance.

Microsoft is running with that regular windows programs can do anything once the executable is 'clicked' and therefor we cannot predict how useful this GAME MODE might prove to those titles, but for our own titles,... (that have proven great examples of worst at game optimisation in PC retail space) we will return to you the performance our (,no doubt, intentionally gimped) software has cleverly held back.
(Cause we want the xbox version to be easier to buy/install/maintain and use, as well as out perform mega dollar computer cousins)(yes I run Forza at ultra at 60 fps).

When GAME MODE is baked into regular polished windows (not testing 'fast ring' builds) it might deliver a smoother performance for games with the best case scenario rasing the low frame counts or removing judders.... and it will be nice knowing that developers can setup their game to run more optimally for their end user.

Presently it just looks like we have had purposefully baked UWP killer titles underperforming so that M$ can get some board room slides quoting a crazy 10-15% improvement (in one or two titles that are considered very poorly optimised...)
Having just done a three day shuffle trying to get my machine to take build 15019 (many attempts at installing 15002, fixing key M$ issues to get it to acknowledge I am on FAST RING, then hours and hours of trying to get the download to fully install)- 20 year IT veteran on a clean install running mostly simple and proven build, vouches don't touch this with a ten foot pole.

Whatever possible benefit this could bring (the biggest being the realisation that this mode is even needed-M$ what HAVe you been doing for thirty years?), is nullified by running a temperamenal version of the OS with full telemetry required to M$, whose overheads are higher than the potential gains.

Having spent many many hours driving very specific laps in Surfers Paradise in Forza, and having played with a 25% CPU overclock and a video card upgrade and overclock, this game just doesn't want to run smoothly.

That happens when the code is written to throw a whole tonne of code onto ONE CPU CORE. Which is no doubt decrypting 256bit AES Stored textures 'on the fly'.

This game was written to gimp pcs whilst making the xbone look great.
PC gamers don't even get HDR quality!!! (Joke there- HDR is an industry joke, which will make a lot of people a lot of money before realised HDR setups become setup in every street)

Most ninja PCS are just better off running forza in 30fps mode. It actually runs smooth as, and only creates a slight lag for input controllers, which stops being relevant on force feedback wheels, who cares about 20ms.. (Need for Speed games have sold with 180ms of code latency on the wheel controller)

GAME MODE presently is a thing designed to get some tasty board room slides quoting nice statistics..
In the real world, stick with your present PC build, enjoy when this mode rolls out, mid year, and enjoy any Windows Store titles improving dramatically and confirming why we need windows ten anniversary X2 super hyperbole edition.

windows is worse than an annoying emo teen!

I haven't done insider in a while. I usually wait till it's super stable now a days since I use my Lumia 950xl for my general pc usage in continuum and my pc is my gaming pc. But I don't want it to suffer from bugs.
