31 January 2017
Each gets a small bump, but the phones will be thinner too.

Which isn't the case so keep your facts with yourself and don't term others views as justification of their purchase and denial of facts. The facts which you are showing are not facts to consider anymore.

Anonymous, 06 Feb 2017I knew that you have a Samsung phone therefore you are bias... moreIf those are THE facts then Samsung, LG, Sony and co would have probably stopped producing them and stopped using them in their TVs and smartphones. If those panels are really so bad to not even last more than three years without any issues, they wouldn't be spending so much money on producing them.. You are talking as if you are most knowledgeable person than those who designed, developed and produced these screens. The FACTS you are telling may be of any value for the first generation AMOLED panels and not for the present and future. There are millions of phones being used all over the world which use AMOLED screens. Samsung uses them, Nokia used them, LG uses them and Apple is also rumored to use them. If what you are saying is really true then by now someone would have complained or the said manufacturers would have improved the panel quality by now. As i said my S6E screen's colour accuracy never deteriorated nor did i experience burn-in or any other issue you are talking about. It is as good as it was on my first day with it. Go and check DisplayMate site to know about quality of screens.

When we are talking about how long does the screen last, it does not mean that the screen won't work after 3 years. It means the colors get distorted, burn-in appears, the screen becomes dimmer etc. The degradation happens continuously, not from one day to the next. And it affects ALL AMOLED screens. There are no exceptions.
            End of story.

Samsung is aggressive to put in a bigger battery and a larger screen and tiny bezel to the S8, anyone remember how aggressively they put a larger battery in Note 7?

Anonymous, 01 Feb 2017No, that's not necessarily 5-6 years. It's 2-3 years (depen... moreI am using S6E since the day it released so your theory of degrading screen in 2 years time is ruled out as it didn't happen to me and most of others. And i am a moderate to heavy user. If you don't like AMOLEDs don't buy them and also don't preach others about them being low quality screens. Samsung and other display manufacturers are not stupids to manufacture so many OLED panels if they are really poorer than LCDs as you mentioned. Even Apple is rumoured to use AMOLED panels in one of its phones this year. Agreed that LCDs have longer durability even up to a decade, but your theory of AMOLEDs having just 2-3 year lifetime is wrong and is proven so. I have seen many people using their Notes and Galaxy S series phones released prior to S6 still with no signs of so called degradation you are talking about. You may ask why other brands are not using AMOLEDs, that is because of its higher production costs. You may not find any significant difference in high quality LCDs and AMOLEDs but by no means AMOLEDs are poor quality screens. And definitely they will last longer than 3 years.

RaghavaZ, 01 Feb 2017By the time it takes to degrade(IF), may be around 5/6 year... moreNo, that's not necessarily 5-6 years. It's 2-3 years (depending on usage). The degradation happens continuously, not from one day to the next. And a lot of people don't want to waste money on new phones every 2 years.

You're just trying to justify your purchase because you have a phone with AMOLED screen so you want to diminish the problems of AMOLED.

In fact, AMOLED screens are worse than IPS LCD. And don't forget that according to rumors, Samsung wants to use RBG supbixel arrangement in S8 which burns in faster than PenTile. PenTile is intended to extend the lifespan of AMOLED screen and delay the appearance of burn in, but it still burns in. Moreover, PenTile makes the screen more pixelated (it doesn't have as many pixels as RGB screens, that's why S8 may have RGB screen because of VR headsets) so it needs higher screen resolution to hide the pixelation. Today's phones have QHD screen resolution anyway. The higher the screen resolution, the smaller the subpixels. The smaller the subpixels, the faster the burn in appear.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2017http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/20372_Do_AMOL... moreBy the time it takes to degrade(IF), may be around 5/6 years, majority would have upgraded their phones then. So no need to worry about degradation of AMOLEDs if ever that happens. OLED TVs started to gain momentum so durability is not a concern, where a mobile screen will not be as heavily used as a TV screen.

Leaks even say that the Galaxy S8 will be a little bit smaller than the Galaxy S7. So, a 3250 mAh is a logical battery capacity for the device

p.s. won't talk about the marketing and how many people buy iPhones because Apple, talking only about the OS :)

It looks pretty good. Screen over 5.5 inch is a must today. However, without home button and two bottom buttons its not going to be phone we like. Certainly it is going to far more difficult to control. I had my eyes on beautiful note 7 as my old note 3 is slowly dying. Perhaps we should wait for note 8 and hope it brings old-fashioned design.
