I assumed it was the latest 7 plus because of the price.. Turns out it's more logical and economical for Apple to replace with the same model refurbished

              > Apple is offering her a replacement model.

It does not state the replacement model is an iphone 7 plus. It also does not state the replacement model is an iphone6 plus. The most likely scenario though is a replacement for the same model phone.

Bonus points: due to financial reporting, since the customer has been charged $750 for the phone Apple can claim that as an iphone sale (regardless of whether they need to refund the cost). Consider that when iphone sales numbers are reported.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2017From the article: > Apple is already on top of the case... moreNope you got it wrong.. Apple charged the woman $750 for the new phone which is the 7 plus.. Once they got the exploded iphone then they will release the $750 back which means the 7 plus is for free.. If they failed to get the exploded iphone then the woman has been forced to buy the 7 plus for $750.. Typical greedy Apple.. How could you force someone to buy a replacement phone? Maybe she wanted a different phone(not the plus;regular 7) or she could have bought a new one on carrier subsidy.. As you know a replacement phone from iphone means a REFURBISHED phone.. That's right folks.. Apple is charging $750 for a used phone (she is forced against her will) and what do you know in the end Apple will claim that they never received the exploded phone(although they did) and run away with the money.

                                > Apple is already on top of the case and has already promised the woman a replacement.

That is, Apple has started a replacement process and likely has already sent the replacement phone. As part of the process though, Apple wants the damaged phone back. To ensure the person isn't scamming them, Apple placed a $750 charge on their credit card. The payment hasn't been settled yet though. Once Apple gets the damaged phone, they cancel the $750 charge.

This means that Apple thinks a brand new iPhone6 plus is worth $750 (shipped). You think it's with worth $350 today. Which means it's more of a rip-off than anything. Because if the phone is lost on it's way back, the person will get charged $750.

                                  Apple is tooooo generous..

Apple save a million dollars coz if this lady sued Apple then Apple would have to shell out damages.

So Apple instead apologied and gave her 750 US$.

Now go and buy an iphone 7 plus gold..

So what if it was a 2 year old phone? I'm currently using Xperia Z which was released in 2013 and it's still super smooth and rocking with no battery problems whatsoever..
That guy said this like it's something normal for phones to catch on fire /explode after 2 years. Where do you live man?
I have a drawer full of old mobile phones and not one caught on fire.
Clearly this is either a malfunction, low quality battery or even a software problem. Either way this is so dangerous. How many of us wake up instantly from deep sleep when something happens around?
I'm thinking of placing the phone on a metal tray so if anything bad happens nothing will catch on fire..
